That's a good shout as well, a double shift! We all know that Zanahiyr switching will come up with Gordon at some point, remember last year and the hysteria with Envoi going for the Supreme.

One of the biggest advantages of betting on the festival is the NRNB concession. It does involve tying up funds but by thinking out of the box you can get some great positions and it also helps protect positions.

I don't want Zanahiyr to go anywhere other than Triumph as he's a good winner there and would weaken my bets on Appreciate It. These bets just act as a bit of insurance if targets change and with money back I don't see much downside.

    • Maybe looking at the French Flat winners converting to hurdles angle, Heross D Seuil’s second hurdles run later this week, is a bit more interesting, as he has that angle, one flat run,one win.

      • I will be looking for 12F French Flat horses moving into Juvenile hurdles a lot more, now, with maybe a single win, as well as looking at UK/IRE 10F/12F Flat horses moving into Juvenile hurdles.

Hendo's horse fits the bill also this year. Been entered up many times in the past weeks and not run because of the ground and weather. Previous first run in u.k. form working our nicely also. Being owned and trained by the right people imo is worth a close look after reading this excellent piece from Saxon.

Got bored so had a look at this for the sake of it.

Quilixios ran 2m on soft to heavy at Leopardstown at the weekend in 4m 5sec (Saint Sam 5 1/2l)
Zanahiry ran 2m on soft at the same track on Boxing Day in 4m 9.6s (Saint Sam 6l)

Don't know where the 6f marker is so I just timed Zanahiyr and Quilixios from the 4th last (as they take off) which I think is around the 6 1/2-7f mark.

          Zanahiyr: 1m 49.07s
          Quilixios: 1m 50.9s

Taking the ground into account, seems fair enough, pretty evenly matched? Both travel well, Zanahiyr looked better visually on the run in though. Quite looking forward to this one, hope they both show.

Very tight between them based on that. Backed both so don't really care who wins. May come down to the ground with Zanahiyr maybe the speedier type .

Be very wary comparing times from different days - often have no merit whatsoever

They change the layout of the course regularly at Leopardstown, especially the home bend, as they're rising.

                  • ...Richard Thompson (Cheveley Park) on ATR saying Quilixios needs more than 2m but better ground in the Triumph will suit. It’s all about chasing with him in years to come.

The three rides Townend gave looks almost perfect form a pace point of view, it's no wonder they all looked so good. Monkfish, CPS, Energumene.
And you can see how Rachel really stepped up the pace perfectly on Honeysuckle.

And for the triumph, how fucking stupid a pace Saint Sam went.
Also it looks like Townend was probably a little too steady with Appreciate It, which probably explains how it looked visually at the finish

Q, any chance in your wonderfully succinct way you can let us know how these maps should be interpreted?

                            No idea ?
Tried to find his site but got fed up after a few seconds but seem to recall looking last season.

I took it that the sectional speeds for each horse/race has given a BHA performance rating.

So for example the Quilixios race seems to show what visually I took from the race, in that Saint Sam really went very quick in the middle part of the race, and they couldn't keep that level up.
The three Townend rides look very good pace and very consistent and efficient.
And Rachel's ride was a nice gradual wind up which is ideal for running the finish out of horses like Sharjah.

Only my best guess though when trying to match the pacemap to my visual impression and the timings.

Would've ruined his Boodles mark if he had won
