Reason being, because the pool is relatively so small, as you can only be a certain age, no matter what, something will be the best.... it's like finding out who the fastest kid in your year at school is.... whoever is fastest, is probably also the best at other sports on sports day... cos they're just 'the best' of that age...

I have thought that ever since using Defi Du Seuil's abysmal jumping as a stick to beat him with. He ended up winning the Triumph pretty easily and went on to win another festival race, as well as going off fav for a QMCC. I would be staggered if your notes didn't find it easy to crab his jumping, yet he was just clearly the best of that crop.

Now obviously DDS and French Aseel don't have a similar profile at all, and I'm not saying French Aseel wins the Triumph, but I thought his debut over hurdles was fantastic, and if he wasn't single figures, I'd be getting giddy about his prospects, 1 run or not... the trainer can deliver.
The interesting thing about French Aseel not running in Dublin because he's settling in, is how Willie sells this to the new owners.
You spend all that money then he doesn't run in such a valuable race !, having been in sales most of my life the bullshit skills some of these trainers have is something to be admired.
And when you're Big Willie, you can get away with much more.
The way he dealt with the O'Leary's was masterful.

I still hold on French Aseel but reduced my stake, they went to the trouble of giving him an entry then decide that Youmdor needed a quick turnaround after suffering a fall at the last in his last run,the former has not had the ideal prep to my mind and the fact he was deemed not ready to run made me want to reduce because the fact that a few animals manage to win the Triumph on their second run is not the ideal blueprint and the last two to achieve this was fortuitous due to the falls of Sir Eric and Goshen.

A bit harsh to call Pentland Hills fortuitous...
There was a long way to go when Sir Erec met his demise

(granted, I have lilac and black tinted glasses on..

A winner is a winner and good for all those that collected and you are right to point that the winner fell early in the race

          • Interesting that Quilixios is now odds on... Given how Mullins' have been running, that's very strong.

            • Zanahiwho?

I like how he responded to close the gap. Very impressive from Quilixios

Yes that persuaded me to back him for this

Did it well given the long lay off, Kennedy just kidding him along

youd expect him to improve for that run

Doesn't surprise me. Zanahiyir backers aren't going to be too worried after that IMO

Was something said today Kev? Or is that historic?

                        • As a tritonic backer I was fairly happy that youmdor didn't win in the same ownership

Looking forward to seeing him again still

Will need to improve plenty but no reason to think he wont

I thought he did that really well. I think Saint Sam has improved since Zanahiyr beat him... and Busselton beaten further?

I don't see what's not to like, I wouldn't think Zanahiyr backers (of which I am one) would not be at least a little more worried than they were before the race.... he's enhanced his claims, clearly.

Hard to overlook the spring juvenile as a piece of form for the triumph. 5 winners since 2010 have come from the spring juvenile and shit loads of horses have placed in both. I’ve backed both but well happy with that

                              • Gordon said zanahiyr was a speedy type and quillixios more a stayer

If they go on end to end gallop in the triumph that may bring stamina into play up the hill
