Did it and loved it, went back another week and got put forward for this tennis "grade" exam similar to musical grades. Me and two other kids whose parents were both members of the club. The final test was having to hold a rally with an adult player. The instructor knew their parents, asking how they were etc, gives them a few dobblers to return. I step up with my ?10 argos racket and she proceeds to serve as fast as she could directly at my head three times before saying "oh failed, never mind". Never played again.

I've played rugby, football, cricket and darts regularly throughout my life and never experienced the "get lost oik" feeling that I wasn't welcome like i did with tennis
sounds brutal sorry to hear that mate, but for me its just the matter of the fact I never even got to try anything, my parents never pushed me to do anything which in turn has left me how I am today, wishing I did stuff

It's never too late. One of the defining things of my adult life has been the cricket team I started with some mates and played in a local 16 over park league for 12 years. Genuinely had never played a game of cricket before the age of 24

      • Sport-wise a fraction of 1% make it, and the rest are genuinely heartbroken with shattered dreams from a young age. You know the old saying. It's better to have never tried at all than to fail. Oh, that wasn't it at all was it..............

You will do stuff though Zach. And with your grades so far the world is absolutely your oyster. With Uni ahead of you, and the opportunity to get a really good degree, plus the benefit of an outstanding 'on-tap' social life to go along with it I reckon you are about to embark on what you'll look back on as the best years of your life.

You're also not bad at this betting malarkey either by the way. So keep up the good work!

You're only 18, plenty of years left til you're fucked and falling to pieces like the rest of us. I laugh now at my early-mid 20s when I thought all the chances to do stuff had either been banked or passed me by, when now I realise I was still just a kid. Get out there and get stuck in to whatever you want, you're barely at the beginning, loads still to play for and you're heading into a belting couple of years at uni in particular

You're still young Zach, and hopefully plenty of time on your side, each tomorrow is a new day to start something new

In my head that's how it is, i'd be prime Sean Bean tearing straight into anyone and everyone, generally Lording the battlefield (until the episode or the 10min point into the film he gets killed as always). Unfortunately in reality i'd be the portly village idiot left behind to look after the chickens.

                  Positives:
                  - Drawn high (16/19 winners drawn there)
                  - Drawn close to pace (Mr Wagyu and Copper Knight drawn high)
                  - Twice a course winner this season over half a furlong shorter
                  - Showed the distance is no issue at York two runs back, staying on after seeming outpaced throughout. Trainer had previously said he doesn't think the track suits him.
                  - RPR greater than current OR on 3 of last four runs (only one where he didn't was a slowly run 6 runner race in which the first 3 home were front runners so he never had a chance as a hold up horse)

Jawwaal has been on my radar since his Ascot win last year, and having won twice at short odds at Doncaster this season, it makes sense that this would be the season target so hopefully I'm right because it will have been the target for a lot of other runners as well!
I'm not cashing this bet out as I'm hoping he has enough in hand and that the ground will dry out again overnight, but the rain they've just had at Donny is a negative for Jawwaal.

                  • There's some really good value (yes I used that bloody word ) in Hamilton to win the Italian Grand Prix this weekend.

Its a Mercedes favoured track so he had a great chance regardless, but there is also a chance that Verstappen will take a grid penalty which should hand the win to Hamilton on a plate.

Generally about 5/6, SkyBet also had it boosted but it's currently suspended.

Edit... Also just round a RequestABet I really like for those of you who are feeling a little braver.

Hamilton to win, Riccardo top 6, Norris and Perez points. 15/2

The fact she's the same age as me makes it even more surprising but at the same time makes me feel like I wasted my younger years not doing anything even though I am going to a very highly ranked university in England to study computer science after getting AAA in my a levels just 3 weeks ago it's just made me feel a bit deflated feeling like I didn't try to do stuff like Tennis albeit we probably couldn't afford it. If anyone's messages are open for a chat since I've been feeling down lately I would appreciate it cheers.
Hi Zach, just to add my 2ps worth, I was in a similar situation at your age - parents had no interest in sport at all and I lived quite a sheltered life. Went to uni and then started work and that opened my eyes a bit to life, and joined a local cricket team that is still the centre of my social life. A piece of advice is just to go and try new stuff either that you’ve always wanted to do, or that you’ve never even thought of trying before, until you find something you like. There’s so many interesting things out there to do, and clubs/societies are a good way of meeting new people. Happy to have a chat if you’d like to mate - know where you’re coming from and been where you are now. Trust me, it gets better!

                        • So Bottas is first is qualifying but has taken a grid penalty and will start from the back, Verstappen still could so looking pretty promising!

                          Hamilton 2nd
                          Riccardo 5th
                          Norris 4th
                          Perez 9th

If they can stay there (up a place from Bottas) I will be happy!

Zach, I hope you're good mate. Sorry I didn't post earlier, was rushing to post up that roll up before qualifying started. But having been in your shoes fairly recently, trust me when I say that starting university is a way more exciting opportunity than you would ever have had as a kid! I studied Maths (with some computer science courses, and work in software development now) at a good university too, so if you need someone to chat to about anything then please feel free but look to the future, I'd give anything to go back and do it all again!

Finished a computing degree a couple of years ago myself, and tomorrow I'm asking my best mate from uni to be my best man. The grass does get greener mate. My inbox is open if you want it
