The fact she's the same age as me makes it even more surprising but at the same time makes me feel like I wasted my younger years not doing anything even though I am going to a very highly ranked university in England to study computer science after getting AAA in my a levels just 3 weeks ago it's just made me feel a bit deflated feeling like I didn't try to do stuff like Tennis albeit we probably couldn't afford it. If anyone's messages are open for a chat since I've been feeling down lately I would appreciate it cheers.
You should speak with family or friends.

Very few have the talent to do what she has done.
Looks like you did better than her academically also, so you should be proud of that.
And she's your age, so you have a chance with her !! (unless you're gay, or a woman who's not gay)

Being only 18, you have plenty of time to work out what you can look towards achieving in life.
Most on here aren't as fortunate.

    To quote Mr Peterson.

Compare yourself to who you were yesterday, not to who someone else is today.

    • Just to add to the above, I've worked at an elite youth tennis academy - it's brutal. They were talking about the fact that you have to be top 150 in the world (if my memory serves right) just to break even on Tour!

I wouldn't feel down about the fact you never tried it because of her success, I'd use it as an opportunity to realise it's never too late to start. No reason why you can't join the Tennis/Badminton/any other club at university on a recreational level, make some good mates and enjoy yourself! Also, if sport is your passion, I'm telling you now it's going to be a massive growth sector for computer science stuff over the next few years (particularly football) so you're really not in a bad place to make a name for yourself in sport as time goes on!

That would be the dream aha, doubt it would ever happen though even though I did attempt with a cheeky message!

Not even to go pro mate, just play in general at a young age and probably would have gotten to a decent level since it seems something I'd have enjoyed if I was introduced to it and since I only really did swimming when I was a child haha, but thanks for the kind words, I definitely am going to try some new stuff.

          • Another roll up possibility is Jawwaal in the Portland tomorrow at Donny. I've doubled with Flooring Porter for a 142/1 double (10/1 and 12/1 on 365).

            Positives:
            - Drawn high (16/19 winners drawn there)
            - Drawn close to pace (Mr Wagyu and Copper Knight drawn high)
            - Twice a course winner this season over half a furlong shorter
            - Showed the distance is no issue at York two runs back, staying on after seeming outpaced throughout. Trainer had previously said he doesn't think the track suits him.
            - RPR greater than current OR on 3 of last four runs (only one where he didn't was a slowly run 6 runner race in which the first 3 home were front runners so he never had a chance as a hold up horse)

Jawwaal has been on my radar since his Ascot win last year, and having won twice at short odds at Doncaster this season, it makes sense that this would be the season target so hopefully I'm right because it will have been the target for a lot of other runners as well!

Sky have boosted it to 2/1. 'Max stake varies', aka a tenner.

Edit: Can't use it for a double at that price so irrelevant for this thread, but anyway...

I may well do that, out with the wife tonight and she has already hinted she wants a few Pornstar Martini's so I need all the help I can get funding that

tbh fella, my experiences of tennis at a young age is that it remains horribly elitist.

When i was like 13, there was some court and a club in my local park. Asked my parents if I could do their summer week - they were overjoyed, ?15 to get me out of the house and occupy me for a summer holiday week was gold dust.

Did it and loved it, went back another week and got put forward for this tennis "grade" exam similar to musical grades. Me and two other kids whose parents were both members of the club. The final test was having to hold a rally with an adult player. The instructor knew their parents, asking how they were etc, gives them a few dobblers to return. I step up with my ?10 argos racket and she proceeds to serve as fast as she could directly at my head three times before saying "oh failed, never mind". Never played again.

I've played rugby, football, cricket and darts regularly throughout my life and never experienced the "get lost oik" feeling that I wasn't welcome like i did with tennis

                    • Have similar experiences with tennis as Robith, absolutely laughably snobbish sport. I was a member at our local tennis club as a kid, but the rules (with signs everywhere just incase it hadn't been rammed home enough already) was that if adults turn up and there aren't free courts, kids had to give up the court they were on. Unbelievably cliquey too. Can't think of many other sports where brown nosing/social status/money is almost as, or maybe even more important as talent.
I did a lot of athletics too which is also incredibly middle class, but if you're fast enough or just simply willing to push yourself and work hard, then that's all there is to it.
Actually, road cycling has similar club snobbishness, but all you have to do is get a bike, they don't own the road and there are very few things in life more satisfying than overtaking riders in club jerseys or in club groups.

Safe to say most of those days are long gone, unless demolishing packs of chocolate hobnobs ever becomes an Olympic sport.

Or ?2.50 . They should be embarrassed to call themselves bookmakers
