As some may not, I’m generally not one for rollups but occasionally at the midweek point of outright comps, there’s some excellent value to be had (I did give that 7/4 on Trinbago on this thread in the outright for the Caribbean cricket a few months back). I think I’ve found another one to throw into the mix for this thread - Ronnie O’Sullivan to win the Welsh Open outright at 11/8.
With Robertson not playing this week and Judd Trump out already, two of his main rivals as part of the big 4 players are already out of the equation. Just Ronnie and Selby left.
In general, I wouldn’t be on O’Sullivan in a lot of tournament but this quick fire format suits him. The heavier cloth this week in Wales has really really suited him and he’s won 16 of the 17 frames he’s played with most of those coming in one visit. In short, this is some of the best snooker he’s played in a long long time - including his 5th World Championship last year. He’s got Ali Carter in the quarter final who himself has played well but I’d expect o Sullivan to still be far too good here.
With only Selby left of his main rivals, his ability to handle the heavy cloth (unlike a lot of players this week), the form he’s in this week so far, the way the draw has worked out and the way the shorter format suits his mindset, I personally would have him at 8/11 now. The 11/8 available looks too big. In fact, I’ve had a decent crack at that as well as a rollup with Concertista.
