Master Debonair would be interesting if entered in the Fighting Fifth

    • Why would Master Debonair & Ribble Valley be interesting/have a chance in the Fighting Fifth.
Don't get me wrong as it will depend on who turns up, but if those two are competitive in a decent renewal of the Fighting fifth, then the really good novices from last year must be brilliant.

Yep, depends on who turns up. Cornerstone Lad?

Cos they could be improving still

They both finished ahead of McFabulous in the Grade 2 in Dec 2019 - McFabulous did alright this season didn't he?

Interesting/Have a chance is exactly what they are, nobody is getting over excited.

Every intermediate hurdle winner or second season hurdler to win a race is interesting.
It's a big step up to a grade 1, in open company.
So I'd say those two in particular aren't that interesting in respect of having a chance in the fighting fifth.
If we were to rank interesting from 1-10 in this context I'd put them both at 5.

Ribble Valley might be decent, in time, over a trip further than 2 miles, or on very testing ground over 2.
But I acknowledge that the line up is the key and if it's a sub standard renewal then any old shit could win.
            Like Irving.

I think you've assumed people are interested in them for a Champion Hurdle?

I said I think Ribble Valley will be up to winning graded races..... so the Fighting Fifth is about his level. If he wins it, I won't be talking about him for a CH ( or I might now) - but I don't really consider the Fighting Fifth as having much relevance on the CH, so to me the two horses mentioned, Master Debonair and Ribble Valley, ARE interesting for the race...but that's it

Did you or did you not end up backing Cornerstone Lad for the Champion hurdle last season ?
                  I'm genuinely unsure.
Did you ever back Irving for a champion hurdle ?
                  I've genuinely no idea.
But on a scale of 1-10 I'm genuinely interested.

That’s his usual reappearance target and I’m sure that will have been mentioned in tours/interviews recently...

Haha Cornerstone Lad I did, 55/1 for a Grade 1 winner - no brainer (and as you well know had Epatante at 40/1 so easy to go fishing - that's the story and I'm sticking to it)

The last time I backed Irving, was 2014 - at 2/1 £50 on to win the Supreme

Sounds like you've come a long way since 2014

Absolutely - any excuse for me to roll out this table.

I feel so much lighter now. Thank-you. So are you looking forward to the Fighting Fifth yet?

I just watched the David Attenborough film, way too precious about the planet to buy one of those. *Puts saucepan on head*
