My regular Saturday walk takes me via Corals and Betfred and each week, without doubt, 10/1 paying 5 places is more likely to be 9/1 paying 4 places in shop, which is often disappointing after a 15 min slog in the rain....

More than 100 quid and they will pick up the phone, but alot depends on how you bet, cash and you’re OK, bet on the card and you are standing there 20 mins ehile they profile you and go through a million checks.
Painful times being a punter in this country….

I keep saying it but I don’t know why people are using their cards in betting shops. You’re far more open to being tracked and restricted. Just keep a float of cash in your house ready to go and use the machines in the shops where possible

A 20 quid patent is often phoned through and head office quiz the shop assistant on who wants the bet, recognise them, regular etc.
Sadly with so many shops disappearing the days of wandering out of one and into another 50 yards up the road have gone too.
If you're a single punter then exchange obviously is best or the betting ring...

Only downside, and it's a very small downside, is that when you land a decent payout they have to pay you in cash.
Now you might think that's no hardship, I was fortunate enough to snare 5/8 on derby Day and despite the returns being very significant my local Corals and Betfred insisted on paying cash which was a fairly painful experience.
There's the mandatory call to head office to confirm payment can be made and staff are generally low intellect idiots who spend all day painting their nails or playing on instagram, the whole process took around a hour in each shop, I then end up with a bag full of 10 quid notes. again not a massive issue but you're then quizzed in the bank when paying it in !
I should also say that any returns of over a grand to your card also require verification so a lengthy call to head office for that same scripted profiling exercise has to be undertaken.
Seriously, and it's incredibly irresponsible to say it, but the black market is a far better experience these days...

Yeah the bank bit is always amusing, I just smile and say the bookies when quizzed. I get the feeling they think I’m the local drug dealer now though

Look, it's a nice problem to have so I'll suffer it, ultimatetly the shops are offer a degree of value and a hell of a lot more certainty of payout than the alternatives so I'll stick with it....
