Doesn't look like he's got anything to beat does it

Aloneamongmillions stuffed him didn't he? So will give a good pointer towards his chances if SW wins well

      • I have been following Staker Wallace since he was a young horse
Off the course for a few years before coming back last year
he jumps and travels really well but does appear very one paced at the end of his races
should be good enough today but super citizen looks like an each way steal in this for last years foxhunters winning team
also,Barry o neill rides ( very good jockey ) but Jamie Codd rode Staker Wallace in Cheltenham last year and he rides Fanamix today

        • I’ve had a point each way on Stalker Walker today at 18/1 with Powers. He finished second at last seasons festival but no where near the winner. Probably hasn’t got much improvement in him but still young for a Hunter chaser and 18/1 had some juice in it especially if he wins today

I stand corrected, I thought that was the case but there is a 2 on his form on B365 with his last race recorded as the Foxhunters at Cheltenham. Hunter Chases must not count as recorded races in the form?? Either way I was wrong but I’ve backed the 4th in last years Foxhunters at 18/1

That looked fairly straight forward by Staker Wallace but agree he’s not got many gears

Bookies couldn’t have been impressed, his price hasn’t moved with many of them, still 16’s

He was runner up last time out in a P2P a couple of weeks ago and also second to Aloneamongmillions before that in another P2P in Nov, doubt they are recorded on B365 form guides but the results are.

Yep, it's generally only the Racing Post that records and displays PTP form, certainly Sky and Sporting Life racecards don't so I doubt bookmaker sites will show them...

                    • Since 2012 there have been 3 back to back winners of this race. Would this make a case for "It Came to Pass" to go on and win it again if it goes here? Also the current favourite is Billaway which its beat comfortably by 7 and 10 lengths in the past.

                      • Absolutely for sure. The argument against is mainly age I would say? ICTP is now 11 and although Hunter chasers tend to go on a decent length of time, it’s difficult to think there’s much improvement to come. Where as Billaway is 2 years younger and could be open to improvement?

I agree with the age and that's logically what you'd think but if you look back over the last 5 years 3 of the winners were 11 and 2 of them 10. If you go back a bit further then yes generally the below 10yr olds are winning. Perhaps a buck in the trend, or at least i hope so as I'm going to back the oldie

Also could ICTP be forgiven last time out for the step down in trip?

You may not have seen the trends info I outlined for this race in Post 1 but It Came To Pass is certainly a leading contender both as reigning champion and also in respect of the trends.

In the last 73 runnings of the race since 1946, there have been 10 winners aged 11. Also 6 horses have doubled up the following year and this has occurred twice recently with On The Fringe in 2015 / 2016 and Pacha Du Polder in 2017 / 2018, both of whom were 11 years old when winning the race for the second time.

Connections were probably satisfied with his seasonal debut despite losing and I hope he puts up another bold showing in defence of his crown. I have backed both Billaway and ICTP, plus a few others but like you would love to see the oldie win.

He can but Billaway and the 3rd would also have appreciated further. The winner will come from that race though I suspect. Aloneamongmillions is entitled to improve more than the other 2 so it'll be a very tight call for me.
