    • Found this article from last week relating to Red Indian, currently 4th / 5th in the betting for this and confimed going straight there.

Red Indian ensured his entry for the St James’s Place Open Hunters’ Chase with a pair of early-season open-race wins at Bishops Court and Alnwick, and Leicestershire-based trainer Kelly Morgan says it is Cheltenham next stop for the nine-year-old.

Morgan recently gave up a trainer’s licence and now works for equine training specialists Haddon Training while preparing Red Indian – who is the only racehorse under her care – before and after work. She said: “The plan was to give him a run in mid-January, but with everything being halted we’ve got a little too close to Cheltenham so he will go straight there. He’s a horse that goes well fresh, and I’d rather go there in that condition than off the back of a hard race.

“That sort of preparation nearly paid off with Top Wood when he was second [beaten a neck by Pacha Du Polder in 2018].”

Red Indian with (rt to lft) Alice Stevens, Kelly Morgan and Mimi Eggleston after the horse's win at Bishops Court

Top Wood, who like Red Indian ran in the colours of Sir Johnny Weatherby, went on to win Aintree’s Randox Health Fox Hunters’ Chase. Now retired he is described as Morgan’s “pet”.

With amateur riders currently barred from taking part in races under Rules Morgan is hoping Adam Wedge will take the ride on Red Indian, although she sympathises with Alice Stevens who has ridden the horse in his two wins this season. The trainer said: “I feel bad for Alice who has done a tremendous job with the horse. He goes well for her so it’s a shame, but at least we can run horses.”

Debate about Red Indian’s suitability for Cheltenham’s race revolves around his failure to win under Rules over a distance beyond two and three-quarters of a mile. Morgan said: “He stayed pretty well up at Alnwick [over three miles] and he stayed three miles around Kempton in the [Gr.1] Kauto Star Novices’ Chase [when fourth in December 2018]. He’s a strong traveller and when he’s on song he’s a good horse.

“He’s versatile on any ground, but handles soft better than most. If he finishes in the first four at Cheltenham he will have qualified for Aintree, so might go there next.”

          • It Came to Pass and a former Fat Jockey favourite Stand up and Fight are entered in a 3m hunters chase at Thurles on Thursday. Ground expected to be soft/heavy according to HRI. ICTP backers will be hoping for an easy run out I expect this close to the festival

This was the quote in the RP 6 days ago.

"He may head to Thurles next week if the ground is good, but if it's testing we won't go there."

He added: "I said to myself this year I wouldn't run him on bad ground and I'm sticking to that. He doesn't have to run before Cheltenham but I'd like to run him as long as the ground is right."

Yep, thought as much. Straight there then.

Wouldn't surprise me if Rachel Blackmore has been lined up as the replacement

I’m sure they could get a top pro just wondering if they might not bother coming at all since it’s a family horse and none of the family can even come over to watch? Could save for the Irish festivals?

Suggestion she may turn professional for it in a piece I read earlier

Difficult decision, but with David Mullins retiring earlier this year you'd think Patrick would have a whole host of extra rides that he'd normally not necessarily have.

The only thing that would change are the obvious rides in the amateur races and riding in bumpers in Ireland. But he has the backing of one of, if not best trainer across both sides of the water.
