Obviously her run in the novice event last year was special but we’ve seen it plenty of times before where novices come into open company and fall short.
Her comparative runs with Black Tears, if taken literally, suggest she’s improved hand over fist but I think it’s safe to say Elliott is protecting a mark for that horse.
It’s a guess up where Honey and Benie end up but if either/both land here Concertista isn’t fav, if both go elsewhere then of course there’s a case for Concertista but while that risk exists I just think she’s terrible value.
Boring stance to take I know but I’m happy to ignore the race until final decs...
If you are not already on at good prices then thats the only way to play it.

Minella melody is a fair yardstick I think and she’s had the better of her comfortably twice now. Anybody’s guess if/where BDD goes, I’d have honeysuckle over Concertista if she runs but if neither of the other 2 big guns turn up (at the minute I’d have BDD odds-against to run here, honeysuckle probably marginally odds-on after trainer comments other day) then Concertista will be odds on deffo

        Definitely not a certainty.

My opinion is Honeysuckle is the best of the 3 at this trip now, but all 3 are clear of anything else at this trip that's a likely runner.

The 5/1 EW NRNB price for BDD is a better bet than Concertista at 5/2 IMO, however I'll be dutching them. If all 3 run that's not ideal or going to yield a great profit, but of course I'm anticipating 2, or perhaps now 1 depending on the weekend...

It's a bit like the season Limini, Vroum Vroum Mag and Apple's Jae ran.... I had dutched the Ricci Mares.... sigh.

        • From the Willie quote on the Mares Chase thread it still sounds like a toss up for Benie between the Mares Chase and the Mares Hurdle but crucially there is no mention of any fitness issue so it at least sounds like she's ok and heading for the Festival by inference. So the 5/1 nrnb ew for the Mares Hurdle surely becomes a cracking bet. Where these 3 Mares go is probably going to keep the speculation going for a while yet though!

            Could be mind games too...

Whichever way you take his quote... 5/1 NRNB for the Mares Hurdle is a bet to nothing for me.... had already played it myself when they went NRNB but I can't see the draw backs.

My guess is that she'll go here but that depends on several factors and Kev is right that all options will remain open for as long as possible.

              • Yep I was a Benie fitness sceptic but found those Willie comments very encouraging. Already covered for Mares Chase so backed today E/W for the Mares Hurdle NRNB

                • Willies comments mean this IMO
                  assuming concertista is fit.
if honeysuckle goes mares then benie does also.
                  double team
If honey goes champion then benie likely to go chase

                  • BDD (Mares Hurdle) and Elimay (Mares Chase) at 26/1 ew with PP looks a good play NRNB. The place part looks very strong if they both turn up.

If BDD goes for the hurdle then Elimay will go off favourite and will be short particularly if Colreevy is staying at home like Willie suggests.

I’m hoping BDD goes for the Mares Chase so an element of covering options here.

No brainer I’d say, any combination of these Mares NRNB makes sense to me...

I like seeing the darker side of Willie Mullins. From his comments post race last year he did appear annoyed with Robbie Power and he may still be chomping at the bit to get his revenge on Honeysuckle. Let’s hope it deteriorates into full on boxing trash talking build up between Henry & Willie and the gloves are well & truly off

I benefit most from Consertiesta winning this race but it will be a great race if Benie turns up too

Completely disagree re how the race panned out according to Mullins and co but then I would. But that's old news. Been discussed a million times.

Exactly how I see it. Very sad though on Mullins part if true.

I could see it the other way as well. Trying to play a few mind games before the Irish Champion Hurdle this weekend.
Put it out there that the Mares Hurdle is still a possibility and they're 'up for a rematch'
Makes the Mares a deeper race and the CH more enticing for Honeysuckle connections.

Yep thought the same, especially if Mullins thinks Honey will not be so suited to the CH as many of us do so is less concerned of the threat she poses in that race
