I rewatched the Irish champion hurdle the other day she bungled 4 of the 8 hurdles

    simply doesnt jump well enough
But it's the only reason she's not gone chasing this season........to run in the Champion Hurdle. I'm bored of saying this now so I'll just shut my mouth and let it happen.

My question would be .... why ???? If she was going to run in a champion hurdle it would have been last year

But your opinion relies on the trainer and owner of Honeysuckle being Daft !

If Epatante is fit and well, and wins at Christmas like today then Honeysuckle will run in the mares IMO.

The only chance is that she wins the Irish Champion in the same manner as Apple's Jade did.
        Anything less and they'll dodge.

          • I'm sure Honeysuckle will have a great day tomorrow and win well, but today hasn't been a great day has it? I mean, whichever way you look at March got harder no?

I was never in the Honeysuckle goes Champion camp for a multitude of reasons I wont bore the forum with (already explained), but she's even less likely to go there now seeing Epatante, and IMO out her depth if she does.

Then you have this race - arguably one of the most impressive Cheltenham winners last year in Concertista was completely effortless in cruising round Fairyhouse to go 3rd favourite for this - she's comfortably ahead of her 148 rating IMO.

            • With Mullins now having a very, very able deputy in Concertista for the Mares Hurdle I personally think he will now send Benie down the Mares Chase or Stayers route. Can't see Benie turning up here for a 4th time. She would have a serious chance in both races. I'd certainly fancy her to beat Thyme Hill and Co getting 7lbs. I'd fancy her beating them at level weights !

TBF to Lobos, based on what we've seen so far this years Champion hurdle doesn't look a whole lot more scary. Epatante has cemented herself as the one to beat. From the others theres a couple one would hope will improve further but nothing to scare an owner/trainer off.

Just to be clear however, i think they'd be mad not to run in the mares

I agree, BDD is now less likely to go here, but Concertista is no deputy.

Agree, she is a very good horse in her own right. I've backed her to win the Churdle at 25's but also have her at 8's TWAR so covered all angles . She does look to have matured a lot this season.

Very good position to be in Lobos.

I have the same in the CH and will be hovering over 6/1 in running tomorrow so if Honeysuckle is failing to impress, I will backing Concertista for this.

She will love 2 1/2 miles and we know she'll power up that hill. I think she'll win the race with or without Benie.

                          Concertista?

                          • Before the hopefully inevitable cut tomorrow to 9/4 or 2/1 am playing my final (of many) bets on Honeysuckle. 10pts double with Envoi at 12/1.

What makes you think she will power up the hill over the longer trip? Today she beat two horses who are already exposed as being well short of Grade 1 standard without coming off the bridle. It was hardly a stern test of stamina. She just outclassed them.

                              • This makes me wonder how good Burning victory. The stable tour made it sound to my ears that they rate her as one of their best for the mares hurdle... possibly she’s summered really well and is now a monster?
