I do think Fury road will come good come the big day but The Storyteller's form this season has been really good.
Hopefully Fury Road with Keith on Story?

Think Keith Donoghue is nailed on for The Storyteller in fairness, has been on him almost all this season..

      • Makes sense chaps, no Davvy does create a massive headache for Gordon. I am happy as long as Robbie Power is no where near either (or any of Gordon's)!!

He has been so impressive and consistent this season. I'm thinking the Stayers looks really open/competitive this year and that we may get a big field which could tempt some bookies into additional places to the normal 3 so I'll wait and play the without Ew market with him on the day.
A good angle, but I think we're already seeing some of the value lost in the NRNB market - some only offering 10/1. If this was a paying 5 places field, I would imagine his price would be lower still.

My only small issue is that he tends to be run cold. Keith's delivered him wonderfully late on but if one got away here, like FP did at Christmas, he might just be too far off the pace. That being said, same issue for PP.

What a cracking race this is shaping up to be though. Most looking forward to this and the Ballymore at the moment.

          • The last 5 Stayers have been won by 7 year olds which isn't good news though for SDB and TS but an extra tick for Fury Road and Thyme Hill and a few others.

              • Hopefully navan is in no danger sunday, I’m pretty sure that one should be okay, as I’ve kept the faith in fury Road despite a rather uninspiring victory the first day & an abject disappointment at Christmas and would *really* like him to reward that by putting this boyne hurdle field away nicely.

                • Does anyone have any stats on chasers coming back over hurdles for the fez? I remember there being a really good thread about this in the Pertemps last year but I couldn't find it.

                  • Not sure how accurate but I’m hearing that Mullins is favouring more towards kemboy running in the stayers and part owners have been informed of this decision. What do we rate his chances if he makes the switch? Personally not a fan and won’t be backing him in a hurry. Feel like I have most of my eggs in one basket with this race as I’m all in on thyme hill.

...I was amazed the 33-1 with Bet365 lasted for so long when this was first mentioned a few weeks ago. Without wanting to put him on the spot, I’m not sure if archie is in a position to add any detail.

                        • What can I say?

Since he got the original entry, Willie has said that Kemboy's best chance at Cheltenham might be this race. He even said the same thing publicly after the Irish Gold Cup. The best information I can pass on is the common knowledge that he will make up his mind as late as possible so anything other than NRNB is extremely brave.

                          In terms of this race, Kemboy's chase rating is 169. The main contenders are rated (over hurdles) as follows;
                          165 Paisley Park
                          162 Thyme Hill
                          158 Sire Du Berlais
                          153 (+7) Roksana
                          159 Flooring Porter
                          156 Ronald Pump
                          153 The Storyteller
                          158 McFabulous

I've said before that the configuration and fence placement on the New Course seems to affect Kemboy's rhythm and it's possible that it won't matter as much over hurdles. However, I also have to repeat that his previous Festival appearances were either respectable or excusable.
                          2017 Neptune/Ballymore - 5th at 16/1 exceeding expectations.
                          2018 JLT - 4th at 15/2 when 5th in the betting.
2019 Gold Cup - UR at the 1st when hampered by Presenting Percy.
2020 Gold Cup - 7th when 5th in the betting. Had a troubled preparation because of the Supreme issues and subsequently had an injury that would have kept him out of Punchestown. Unknown whether this contributed to jumping right at Cheltenham because we don't know when the injury was sustained.

What you can say is that he has improved with each race this season. He would have beaten the Gold Cup second favourite in the Savills if he'd jumped the last cleanly or had APT's jockey not broken the whip rules. There is a case to go Gold Cup. There is a case to go Stayers. There is a case to give Cheltenham a miss and go to Aintree. We won't know until very late in the day and we won't have any say in the matter.

thank you, happy to be a part of it.

a friend from another group I am part of sent it over this morning, he is friends with a part owner of kemboy and Willie has said that the stayers is the likelier option and thinks his biggest chance of a win is in that race but we all know that nothing is ever set in stone and we will be left guessing until the last minute. I think there are two bits of information that can be taken from kemboy going to stayers, firstly he wants to throw a decent enough dart at the stayers and that he is clearly confident that al boum photo is realistically all he needs in the GC (can’t be argued with) but yes considering the improvement kemboy has shown with every race this season he is well in his rights to go gold cup but just hasn’t performed to expectations at cheltenham for one reason or another.

                              • As a Lisnager Oscar backer that was a really promising run.

The 'talk' was this is definitely a prep, the literal form of it wouldn't be good enough, but the bet looked dead last time, so I'll take that.
