Absolutely. Will be interesting to see how well he comes up the hill.

The Newbury race may have been messy but he's travelled into it like a dream, match fit, and found sweet FA. There is little to no chance that hill would see him to better effect, IMO.

      He's one to forget IMO
Don't agree Charlie. No way we can conclude from the Newbury race that he didn't stay. It was far to messy and they didn't start racing until 2 miles in. He deserves another chance at the distance.

Non stayer, clear as day relative to the two proper stayers that beat him. He's a good enough horse on ability not to get disgraced but I can't see why anyone at all could even make the case for him reversing the form back at 3m?

I'll dangle the carrot ready to get nibbled .... I cannot fathom how anyone could fancy him for a Stayers Hurdle.
Agree he will find it difficult to reverse the form. I think he'll win Friday but I won't be topping up on him. Have you much on him as it is !

        • I certainly won't be backing him again.
I just would give him another chance. And especially not label him a non stayer on the one performance.
It was a big step up the last day, and he may improve and learn. He's clearly not at the front 2's level just yet.

Friday will be a big step forward should he win on the likely ground.
However, I'm doubtful of that myself.
And can see myself cashing out.
I'd much prefer Thomas Darby to show his best form, and outstay them all on the ground in a true run race. Or Indefatigible !
Trainer will probably pull him (TD) out.

Post Newbury you, along with I, were fairly adamant he didn't stay, you said Nicholls was clutching at straws and the said line pretty much put through him on your list (#654).

I don't understand what's changed just because he's running in the Rekeel?

Just think I over reacted like a lot of others. Just watched the race back again now and it was a joke of a race. The top 2 have come out and franked the form though and Mcfabulous wasn't beaten far so he deserves another chance to prove he's a Stayer. He's running Friday so Nicholls must think the same.

                • Nicholls clearly rewatched the race and backtracked pretty quickly about him going for the Cleeve noting he didn't believe he properly stayed the trip. Relkeel, National Spirit and Aintree Hurdle would be where I'd expect him to be campaigned for the season now before going chasing.

                  • Can see Sire Du Berlais getting beat today and winning at Cheltenham. A bit like Kettle, Leopardstown is not his course ( beaten heavily twice he's ran there) . For any that's not on
him already, it could be worth waiting until after today to get a bigger price for March. If he wins today, I wouldn't expect him to go that much shorter in view of the strength of both Paisley and Thyme Hill in the market.

Same can be said of Fury Road at Leopardstown

Yep. The way Mullins is going I can see him winning with one of his 2 today.

                          Can it?

He was well beaten in a red hot bumper which was never going to be his game

Then Davy gave him an unusually poor ride in the grade 1 hurdle imo

Gordon has said it might not be his course.
