Yeah all it means is its time to get off the fence. If he wins he contracts, if he is beaten he stays the same /or goes bigger

    • Have to say I was surprised there was so little love for Ronald Pump during the Summer, runner up as a fairly inexperienced horse last year you’d have to assume there could be some improvement which brings him into the equation.
Obviously an early fall wouldn't have helped the case for him but his next effort was a solid one.
I have him in one patent, I think I was too focussed on Thyme Hill and Paisley Park I didn’t get with him more which was an error...

Yeah, personally I'm going to wait until he's declared. I don't think his price will move beforehand.

Yeah looking back I just put him into the bracket of a failed chaser (slightly harsh) who was having at the time his 16th run over hurdles.
For me it just felt like an afterthought when everything else hadn't gone right. Which you could argue loosely does sum him up.
But he's relatively young and relatively unexposed as a 3 miler hurdler still.

That was my initial reaction after the race on Sunday. But he was the obvious eyecatcher in the race really. Will only need a few mentions here and there for him to go 16s and 14s (I think he was 20/1 with B365 after the race and now shorter as Pendil says), then I have no interest at that price.

Plus 20/1 can be such an annoying price when you are slightly on the fence for a horse imo. If you hold off and the price is cut you're losing 4 points minimum. Very very rarely do you see anything inbetween (though B365 have Youmdor in the Triumph I noticed).

One of my pet hates is in most cases having markets of 16/1 20/1 25/1 33/1 and nothing inbetween. When the range of prices there is over double.

Just to add to the Ronald Pump Stayers run. If was reported by the vet afterwards that the 'gelding lost its right-hind shoe and was struck into on its left-hind'
it was a brilliant run all things considered.

It was his 21st run under rules, ie 5 more than Al Boum Photo has had now. One of mine beat him a country mile 2 years previously so he has improved an enormous amount. I wouldn't be confident that there's that much more to come but you wouldn't rule it out.

Jono mentioned that earlier archie, I had no idea he's racked up so many runs, I assumed he went from novice hurdle season to novice chase then back to hurdles, I failed to notice it took him 9 attempts to get off the mark !
So certainly not inexperienced, perhaps more unexposed as a stayer as Jono also said, in fact ignore anything I say just listen to Jono !

Fair enough, takes the decision out of my hands until he is declared as I won't back at 16s now.

I think what also needs to be factored in to a horse like him, is that he hasn't got the potential to get backed into favourite. He's a 20/1 (or was) shot, if he wins the race next time beating SDB and Fury Road, he will go single figures, but he's not gonna be favourite on the back of it... thne you factor in the fact he may not win next time out, he could well be bigger than the current price between now and the SP and you know he acts around Cheltenham so he's worth keeping in mind still.

I like him, I like the cases made, I'm not backing him now and I'm hopeful there are chances to get him onside if need-be.

                    • Keith Donoghue Q&A

Victor Antony (@AntonyGeorgeVS) asked: "How’s Fury Road looking ahead of the Christmas period?"

Fury Road has been great and he's a very exciting horse who always gives you a great feel at home. I'm not exactly sure how much of an out-and-out stayer he is in truth, and I can't wait to see him over a fence. Gordon and Gigginstown are adamant he is a proper stayers hurdle horse though and they don't tend to get much wrong. He has so much class that he will be a real force in this division, but I quite fancy Ronald Pump at Christmas.
