I would love Paisley Park to win this.

I want an authoritative winner though, whoever it is.

I'm hoping Honest Vic shows up well. He ran a very good race in the Coral Cup, then followed it up with an easy victory in a Pertemps qualifier. He could be a lively outsider in the Stayers market.

Agree. I've not backed him but he could easily be the one that gets away. Ran well when 5th in Coral Cup and won easily first time up when running over 3 miles for the first time.

Fabulous race. Pretty much the Stayers Hurdle without SDB and Fury Road. The winner will go very short.

              • I would welcome an opinion from any of our breeding experts on whether they would expect Beacon Edge to stay 3 mile. He is entered for the Hattons Grace on Sunday, where I expect him to go well, but I am thinking of backing for the Stayers before then ( 33/1 B365 )

I am in no way a breeding expert, but on the little knowledge I do have his breeding on the bare face of it would not inspire me a great deal for a stiff 3m, however it is worth noting that the sires top rated progeny is Battleoverdoyen, who has won over fences at 3m, behind him though you have an array of 2-2m 4f horses. The dam and grand dam do not show up much in way of stamina laden progeny, but the dams sire is Presenting, who needs absolutely no introduction, producing the likes of Denman, War Of Attrition and First Lieutenant.

He is a difficult one to weigh up, he's one I'm undecided on, and couldn't be totally against over 3m currently.

                    Agree. I have added him @ 66/1

The trainer has said that the race will decide whether he goes Champion Hurdle or Stayers.

Thats pretty much what I was thinking, breeding doesnt say crying out for 3 miles. Small bet ew for now and see how Sunday pans out

                        • I think Honest Vic is the wrong price IMO @ 66/1 (BS) for this race.
His run in the Coral Cup was very good, and what he did on seasonal reappearance after 250+ days off in his first effort over 3m at Cheltenham, was very very good.

He pissed up off a mark of 141 and looked at least 8-10lbs well in - now up to 150. I just loved the way he did it. Jumped beautifully (as he did in the Coral Cup) and stayed on up the Hill powerfully.

No doubt flattered by inferior opposition (the second has won since) that day, but he's unexposed over 3m and I definitely expect him to outrun his odds on Friday. Backing him now in a small EW bet in case I'm right.

                          • Main Fact put up 7lbs to 154. Long Walk Hurdle then Cleeve Hurdle next on the horizon.

                            • I was looking over the Pertempts market and notice honest vic @ 20/1. Is there a reason folks are suggesting he will go the Stayers route instead? Is it because he will carry too much weight in the Pertempts?

Depends how he gets on on Saturday v Paisley Park an co. If he wins/runs close then he can wave goodbye to handicaps.
