Kemboy made every yard of the running to win the Paddy Power Irish Gold Cup as Willie Mullins dominated Leopardstown's Dublin Racing Festival.

    • “He is entered in the Stayers' Hurdle and the Gold Cup,” Mullins revealed of the winner, who is owned by a syndicate headed by Brett Graham and Ken Sharp following the Supreme Racing combustion in 2019, and was scoring for a first time since sending Ruby Walsh out in a blaze of glory at the 2019 Punchestown festival.

“His record over fences at Cheltenham is a little bit average, so the Stayers' is not out of the question, and skipping Cheltenham and going straight to Aintree is another option. We know he likes it there.”

      Please Willie, send him here!

      • This was Willie's interview with RTE after Kemboy won, interesting from 1min 30 onwards, he seems to admit Stayers Hurdle is the primary option in his mind. Another few weeks of Willie Mullins bingo ensues..

Thanks for post PP, love this. Willie didn't even sound 50/50. Be interesting to hear what Archie has to say as well.

All credit to you sir. Be a bit shit if they just skip Cheltenham all together, which I think is a distinct possibility.

Ha, well remembered Charlie! Although like you say, the horse has plenty of options so it has to be bigger than evens he actually shows up here. Still, nice to have him covered at a ridiculous price, and the stake isn't one that will give me any sleepless nights!!

Willie seemed keen to emphasise here over the GC because of the fences, which would equally rule out the Ryanair (he has loads of potential runners for that anyway).

archie what are your thoughts re Kemboy here as opposed to elsewhere? Thanks

                  • Given how close Cheltenham, Antree, Fairyhouse, and Punchestown are this year, and how he's performed at Cheltenham in the past, you'd think Kempoy would skip the Festival, and they'd target two of the other three going with a winning chance. Why leave a race behind by heading here in March.

To be fair though if anyone was backing at a big price for the Stayers I wouldn't be talking them out of it either.

As per the Gold Cup thread:
As it stands, everything is still in the mix. That includes Cheltenham (Gold Cup or Stayers), Aintree, Punchestown and Auteuil. All you can guarantee is that Willie will leave his options open for as long as possible.

Thank you. I just hope he comes out of yesterdays race healthy and well, then take it from there.
