Hello Fat Jockeys,

Upgrading the Fat Jockey forum!: https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/fatjockeyforum

  • Gutted Paddy is not going pro as he gets on so well with Melon! Assuming all 3 of Willies front 3 line up, I wonder if Bryan Cooper will be on? I’d take that but genuinely see no PM on board as a negative tbh...

I'm not so sure on that.... Patrick's probably the most over rated jockey about isn't he?

Is he actually that good? Compared to any professional?

Probably in bumpers... but over fences, he's a negative compared to the jockeys Willie could use. IMO.

I like his on a Mullins horse he’s ridden before tbh Kev. Agree he’s not as good as some pros but personally think he gets on very well with Melon - each to their own though

I put the actual figures in the bumper thread here a while back but Patrick’s record in the festival bumper is pretty poor compared to whoever the retained pro has been in colsutton at the time, that’s with him on the first string virtually every year too

Yeah I can't deny he 'gets on well' with him.... but for me that's down to circumstance... he gets to ride him, and he's a bloody good horse, so it looks like a match.

Let's say Patrick was injured though, and some pro had been drafted in, let's say B.Cooper for example, with 12 months of riding for Willie, would we all think he was the bees knees and had some lovely relationships with horses? I'd think we would.

I just think it's over played that's all.... Melon is pretty straight forward.... let him stride on and don't hold him back... I don't think it needs a genius aboard.

I think Mullins is top notch as an amatuer, behind only Codd really.... and Codd is different gravy.... but I'm not knocking him loads....I just don't think he's better than average compared to the pros.

Aye, well he’s not on & I’ve got Melon in about 25 different multiple combos so whoever is onboard I’d like to see them up in the van booting on & letting him eat up the ground & fences! And you’re right imo by saying he’s a good horse.....he’s a bloody good horse at Cheltenham & really fancy this is his year!

Yeah I'm really warming to him as well to be fair.

Over the last 12 months I've fancied all his runners at different times!

I'm hoping Melon looks like being the third string at the moment.... and then drifting a bit as perceived third string.... but he's achieved so, so much more than Allaho....

Min, on his best day, is easily better than either, but I can't depend on Min being 100%.

I think Melon is the best bet of the 3 at the moment....but I could easily be swayed haha

Did you listen to Mullins stable tour?? I get the feeling he really fancies Allaho. Said he was playing with Elimay last time. He thinks he's very smart. Might even bring him back to 2 miles at some stage ! He's your winner !

Yeah, and as I say, I like Allaho too.... but beating Elimay, and 3rd behind Minella Indo and Champ still isn't better than what Melon has done?

I'd back Melon to beat Elimay at Cheltenham just like I would Allaho.

This time of year, I'm a bit pointless to ask, as I've got both backed, but I like to try and think about what I'd back if I was starting from scratch / find the most likely winner / find the value ..... and despite Willie's rambling, I think Melon is a better bet than Allaho right now.

                        • Looks the toughest Graded race of the week by some margin to me. The Mullins trio, Imperial Aura, Saint Calvados and Fakir D'Oudairies. Honestly wouldn't be surprised if any of those 6 won.

Just look at his positioning on several of his mounts at last years fez, far too often sat deep in the field like he's on one of his old mans bumper good things waiting for his mount to take him past the field, was very frustrating last year imo.

                            • Samcro 16s NRNB is a cracking bet. Looks like he’s going to get his ground. 2/2 At the festival over similar course and distance. Always comes good in the spring, think he will be backed just like last year and go off 7/1.

                                0.5pts Tornado Flyer @ 60's

36/1 available (boosted with Hills). Samcro's ability is there for all to see, but is there a better piece of form over 2m4f this season that losing 1L to Min in the John Durkan?

Min was actually much quicker than the previous year, carrying more weight, on worse ground. It was a proper race that - we just couldn't bloody see it!!

That was a huge effort by Tornado Flyer, and IMO it's comfortably ahead of Mister Fisher's win over Kalashnikov on form.

He's unfancied because he's been pissed around with trips, but make no mistake, he was punted off the boards in the minutes leading up the JD which can only have been stable money - someone seriously fancied him to beat Min, and he nearly did!!

Given Samcro's disappointing season so far (I know spring horse), I think TF at nearly double the price is better value than Samcro.

I've decided to add Tornado Flyer at 33/1 NRNB for now...

Still hoping for my 60's e/w closer to the time though
