I think he's a horse who might enjoy getting his own way when he can get into a rhythm though so don't expect Min to leave him to it Sunday

If min runs like he did in the Durkan last year then there is every chance imo a race fit Battleoverdoyen beats him

and there is every chance with Min being older he will regress this season

At 7/4 and 9/2 i know who i think looks more appealing
    The favourite?

    wins.

    Fair enough, good luck both

Me and Min are done, the Ryanair last year was my sweet spot. I won't back him this weekend.

I will be shocked if BOD beats him, but I was just fishing for a bite with that comment earlier

    • Not sure this changes much re: Cheltenham target for Samcro but sharing this from O'Leary anyway.

"Battleoverdoyen and Samcro look to be the main ones of ours for the John Durkan. Two and a half miles looks to be the right trip for Battleoverdoyen but I'd like to see Samcro over further. He ran well when he was third to Battleoverdoyen at Down Royal but I'd be happier to see him step up to three miles. We'll go here first with him.”

Goes on to say he'd get 3 1/2 miles and is ruling nothing out.

Asked if that meant Samcro would be likely to chart a path towards the Savills Chase at Leopardstown, where the same connections have last year's winner Delta Work to look forward to, O'Leary added: "Oh yes, absolutely. I'd say Samcro would get three and a half miles.

"I think we'll see a much better horse over the bones of three miles. We're ruling nothing out with him – we're keeping everything very much in."

        • I had noticed Samcro is a standout 14/1 with PP/Betfair for the Ryanair but are joint shortest price of 20/1 for the Gold Cup.

I've also just realised Samcro will be 9 this coming festival (forgot about the wasted season staying over hurdles), so I could see them having a crack at the Gold Cup, as this may be his one and only chance, given the record of 10 year olds in recent seasons.

          • If BOD backs up this performance first time out this season it'll be a huge splash into this market.

What does the BOD/Samcro related double pay if they do 'switch' target.

713/1 with cash out available, currently. 20/1 & 33/1 respectively.

Worth putting in the related double thread?

Taking the owners comments literally is hardly a smart move, but as some people fancy BOD to win the John Durkhan, that'd possibly interest them....and it interests me and I don't like him

                    • Hmm

My BOD bet was based on most of those not running

                      Oh well hahaha

that is an absolute beauty of a race, think you could only really discount TF? Wouldn't personally fancy chris's dream at this trip also. Great to have these competitive races throughout the season instead of seeing gimmick graded races with odds on shots and very few runners all year.

                              • DDS is scenes @ 22/1 for this. I know he has to put the QMCC behind him (not worried about seasonal reappearance run), but this is a 7 going on 8 year old with two festival wins to his name, multiple grade 1 winner, 170+ rated chaser and he's 22/1. Having seen him just get tired on debut I've seen enough to be confident in his wellbeing, and its simply the wrong price isn't it? Ruby did an interesting piece on RTV (think it was in Ep2 countdown to Cheltenham) where he analysed the benefit of speed as an asset to winning a Ryanair. We know from his exploits over 2m that DDS has speed, enough to go off 2/5 for a QMCC - I think he'll be a massive player in this race and 22/1 come March will look a massive.
