Exuberant doesn't do it for me. Was the RSA a hot race and a drop in trip from the the stable ?. He was beaten by Easy game over 2ml 5f a year ago

Allaho wasn't fit (iirc he was odds on and drifted quite a bit) and easy game had a run under his belt

I took it as "so fancied" indicates "so fancied to be only 10/1"

Yep, fair enough. Can't really put a case together to make anyone back it at that price.

Min is 10/1 and sets the standard.


I'd have Min beating Allaho if they ever met so Allaho will need to improve.

It's just that he is entitled to, and I think he'd been running over the wrong trip for 2 years.




I am a sucker for a 3 miler making all in the Ryanair though.

I really like this horse. It looked as though he might win the Gold Cup going to the final fence. I don't know whether he got the trip, but in my opinion he leaps out as a potential Ryanair Chase winner. We'll start him back in the Grade 2 at Ascot on Saturday but I've also made an entry for the King George because Ruby Walsh tells me he thinks the horse is good right-handed. He's a lovely horse and a pleasure to have in the yard.

He’s the only horse I’ve backed for this ante post and I won’t add any more as I have a terrible record in the race and don’t build books.

Ruby was pretty adament the horse wouldn't have the pace for a Ryanair last year.

I've said numerous times I'm an absolute sucker for a horse making all that I know gets further, and Real Steel's Gold Cup run to me proves he gts further than 2m5f.
However, can he go a sustained, quick enough pace at 2m5f to win the Ryanair?


I think he's a King George horse myself, and the right-handed bit of the comments give me confidence with that too.

My long ass take on Fakir Doudairies and why I think he's more likely to race in and do better in a Ryanair


I've had him in my tracker since he's grade 2 win over hurdles at Cheltenham, in which triggered JP to purchasing him. He's win was worthy of him being added to the tracker, went at a decent pace and never looked like stopping - this was on the new course which is something I'll come back to

He raced in the Supreme where he appeared to be bumped along a bit and outpaced, he rallied on up the hill to pass a few and finish 4th.

His performance against Pentland Hills and Fusil Raffles were good too. Yes, he was beaten but these are solid juvenile performances

There hasn't been many juveniles that have come out into Open company and win champion races on their first year. They tend to find this initial transition a challenge as they lose their age allowance.

Fakir's first race over fences was very promising, he jumped well and saw off Melon. It's wasn't a world beating performance give Fakir could make use of this age allowance but still, it was a very very nice start

I thought his second race over further was telling, on a track which allowed Fakir to go out in front, get into a rhythm and gallop on. It pretty much all it was, take the lead, outjump the rest and then out stay them. It is a shame that Samcro fell as it would have helped answer the question as to whether Fakir stays on well over this trip. This was his best performance, and indicates this horse enjoys such conditions

Right, we come onto his run against Notebook. He was dropped into third for most of the race, and for most he was outjumping the field. 3 out was where the race was won and lost. Fakir put in a massive leap at this one, outjumping Notebook - must have taken 1-2 lengths out of him as Notebook wasn't all that clever over it. The issue was, Mark W took a hold on Fakir here instead of going on and taking advantage of this. Next jump, both jumped it well but Notebook went on from their. Fakir was caught out slightly. They come around the bend and Fakir is boxed in, and by the time he comes out, Mark W has issues with his irons an its pretty much game over. It turned out to be a dash to the line and I dont think Fakir has tactic speed to deal with such finishes

We come to Cheltenham, I've pretty much rubbished Cash Back, Notebook, and all of the GB horses for the race. Along with bloody Put The Kettle On as her form linked back to those GB horses and was off the track for a while. Anyway, despite age allowance no longer being applicable, I carried my Ante Post bet onto Fakir.
That Arkle had a few front runners, not sure whether Fakir didnt have early pace to take it up or whether the jockey wanted to hold him back just behind the leading pair. Either way, Fakir appeared to get outpace down the back as they went down the hill, also looked rushed a few times jumping. He was going ok'ish with 4-5 left to jump, no way as good as PTKO but out of the rest I knew he'd stay.
It just felt like Mark was unable finding trouble, if I remember he was behind Cashback with 3 left to jump and then make a move past him so that he had the rall was they turned into the last 2 fences on the home run. Aidan was class, he popped the 3 from home, too a glance to his left and drifted PTKO over to the rail just in from of Fakir
Another instance where Aidan shown his class was at the 2nd from last fence, he pushed PTKO into finding one, and the horse response. Mark on the other hand, appeared to allow Fakir decide what to do - he ended up going through that fence. Mark worked Fakir over the last fence, he jumped it well but the race was done

So... I think Fakir has had two bad rides. I feel on a better ride he would have beat Notebook and if the scenario was switched (PTKO found trouble and Fakir had the perfect ride) in the Arkle, then Fakir would have won that

I do like this horse, not so keen on the jockey where tactics are so critical.

I've already put up a length post about this, but I do think the horse and jockey would be better suited with a easier ride in terms of tactics. Fakir doesn't have the tactic pace to speed up, slow down and then sprint. I personally dont think Mark Walsh is a master at this yet, not many jockey are! As a result, going over the Ryanair trip, on the new course which lend itself to less of a tactical, sharp race in comparison to the of course/Arkle will suit both.
People may see this as another dig on Mark W, it isn't. He's a decent jockey, but when it comes to the big one at the fez, particularly in these highly tactical 2 mile races on day 1 and day 2 - I just prefer and am more confident other jockeys will bring home the Win

I'm fan of this horse, so aware that I need to be cautious when it comes to backing him. Although the trainer is good, he isn't a GE, Mullins or Henderson so he's likely to bump into one better than him on the day.

For the time being, I've taken the 14/1's TWAR, hoping he's strengthened from last year and I expect some improvement given his age.

I like him too for the KG, will Nichols throw in 3 into that race! lol He's starting to become a Bristish Gordon Elliot making up 70% of the field - PN could have 3 in the tingle creek lol

In an ideal world, Real Steel runs in the KG and wins it or comes extremely close to winning it. Cyrname is tailed off. PN doesnt have a GC horse so throws Real Steel into the GC and routes Cyrname into the Ryanair

Like you, I'm a sucker for a front runner in the Ryanair and Cyrname could do that with ease

At the respective ages, I'd wager Joseph O'Brien has achieved way more than any of them had at that stage. Absolutely destined for greatness.


Still, you're right for now.... but I have to stick up for Joseph whenever I get chance, he's better than "good".
