If Vautour had held on by the diminishing margin, do you think he'd still have switched?

I personally would be seething with any connections that won a King George and didn't go for a Gold Cup, even if it looked like a horse wouldn't stay.

...but that's because I value the Ryanair about as highly as I value own brand beans.

Who knows with those connections but I agree with your point that king George winners should go for the gold cup

Agreed, unless you’re Clan des Obeaux...

            Perhaps the statement should be:

If a horse wins the King George, they should always go for the Gold Cup that season, unless they've already proven to be a non-stayer in the Gold Cup beforehand.

That will become a golden trend that.
Gaultstats will be all over it...

I’m really struggling for a strong opinion in this race but I just can’t fathom who is going to turn up, does willie run Allaho and Min, do chevely park run Allaho and A plus tard, find it hard to have complete faith in Samcro, Barry Geraghty thinks Defi Du Seuil should run again in the champion Chase but isn’t involved anymore, the horse I’m coming down on is Imperial Aura at 25/1, won over C&D, has festival form, returning as an 8 year old which is good in terms of stats, think I might have just found my strong opinion...!!

He really interests me that was a mighty win in the Nov Hcp, I was just hoping for a bigger price so left it for now, 25/1 looks a bit skinny at this stage for me to get involved. But I was really impressed with the style of the win he saw off all comers hes on the short list.

Bit of a ball ache, as I would be keen to side with APT this year, think he will come on from last years 3rd, but the HDB may fo chanpion chase with him! Any quotes? Allaho could go GC, owners probably have a big say on both here? Id probably side with the one that ends up here (if any) but if both go then God knows what I will do...

Was delighted Min got the W last year, wouldnt rule him out to repeat his feat but age will play doubts on my mind. Samcro is one i will have q soft spot for, and one i probably will have some sort of play on!

As already mentioned Imperial Aura could be the outsider to spring a surprise.

One i havent really thought off until I rewatched last years race, Saint Calvados could be in the frame again!

I agree and personally prefer to have ones like (especially with festival form) in the book at long odds.....can always add more or adjust later....think 25s decent price as this is likely to be the target

Worth looking on exchanges.....not sure what it is now, but i have at 32s

Any thoughts on where they'll start off with IA? Rated 157, I wonder if they'll go for the Bet Victor off what will surely be close to top weight.

Could be tricky off 157. I thought about the old roan chase but that is a handicap too. What about the graduation chase that LIT won at Carlisle last year? Would seem like a reasonable place to start to me.

Whatever your thoughts on the race it is becoming a classy event.
10 of the last 13 winners had already won a G1 chase and 12 of the last 13 had races at previous festivals.
Personally I could only look at horses that fit those trends...

Yes, I think its a Listed Limited Handicap so its a decent place for a Left Handed 2M4F Graded chaser to start.

As Ive highlighted before, there is virtually nowhere to go for a Left-Handed Chase over 2M4F in England or Ireland before the Ryanair Chase at the Festival.
Thats why A Plus Tard (who prefers going left-handed) had to run in 2M races all season before the Ryanair.

In England the mid-distance Graded races are at right-hand tracks like Kempton and Ascot, and Cyrname runs in them.

Not sure of Imperial Aura's preferences but he has looked very good at Cheltenham the last two races he's had.

The Old Road seems a popular starting point for the UK based horses.

I should also add that this has always been a notoriously difficult race from an ante post perspective.
I’m sure in years gone by that most horses target the Champion Chase or Gold Cup and only land here if they have speed/stamina issues, that may well be changing but until that is proved over time for me It’s a race to swerve until very near race week (bar a few low stakes or free bet plays)
