  • I still think this is the hardest race to nail colours to the mast!

So many cases can be made for runners. (And the flip side, can add negatives to each)

ALLAHO - my early fancy for this and now very short, The RSA "form" hasn't been up too much, I don't think the RSA was the right trip for him last year and still believe this is his best target and rightful race, as I say though with potential runners here price bit skinny now.

MIN - pulling up last time out for the DEFENDING champion not ideal, quality horse and best on paper if in good nick.

IMPERIAL AURA - fall lto has question marks over him and stepping into a deep graded field, has the potential to do it, but that double figure value was found out long ago! Previous fez winner is a huge plus for me.

SAINT CALVADOS - ran a cracker last year and could easily be in the mix this year. Hacebt got a chance to catch his race at the weekend unseated rider?

MELON - one i hope goes Gold Cup, love to see him win it, so unlucky but always hits the frame but finds one to good!

SAMCRO - Multiple fez winner, write him off at your peril! Gordy should have him ready for here, but can argue form so far not great, but comes good this time of season.

FAKIR DOUDRAIS -Step up could suit, might go QMCC, decent form round chelt and another could easily be amongst it.

MISTER FISHER- OK he was behind a couple of the ones mentioned already, but I just think Nico got it wrong last year, and think he has said that? I keep topping up on him at the prices as think he's still value here.

Few others at bigger prices csn easily be involved here too when you look down the rest! As I say depth is fierce!

Sorry that was bit lazy and sketchy write ups but i have a short period off time juggling other things, work, home life etc ha!

Just in conclusion this is a mind fuck, and the hardest to pick the Winner! Still happy enough to get stuck I though!

    • Sounds like Melon comes here:

Melon was disappointing. We thought we might get a result by changing tactics and it had the opposite effect. He’s probably a horse who likes to be let gallop at his fences and we might think about bringing him back in trip for the Ryanair and letting him enjoy himself a bit more.

        It does make more sense.

Yes - the best thing about the Gold Cup chatter was that it kept him a nice each way price for this for a long time. So I’ve been obliging and he’s in many an ew double !

            • I think Melon would be more suited to a King George than a Gold Cup. I do hope he definitely runs in the Ryanair, it’s not had much strength & depth for a number of years (if ever) but this year there are 6-7 genuine contenders if they all turn up and it’s wide open after Min, Melon, Imperial Aura and Saint Calvados all disappointed last time out. I’m still hopeful that Mister Fisher can improve again, him and Melon are my fancies.

                  • I’d be surprised to see Allaho turn up so would be expecting him to win that on the bridle

                    • From the Sporting Life:

Whether Samcro will be part of Elliott’s Cheltenham squad remains uncertain.

The nine-year-old has won the Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle and the Marsh Novices’ Chase at the Festival, but was pulled up on his latest outing in the Savills Chase at Leopardstown in December.

Elliott said: “Samcro is entered at the weekend (Red Mills Chase at Gowran Park), (but) again the ground will be the worry.

“We’ll probably look at something like the Ryanair Chase with him, but he’s not easy to train. He’s very hot and cold – when he’s good he’s good and when he’s bad he’s very bad.”

                      • As a recent backer of his I’ve got mixed feelings I think about him potentially running at the weekend. On one hand, it would obviously be nice to see him come out & win back down in trip, and if it does it could hardly be construed as a negative, but going straight to the festival fresh on the back of a layoff after he’d disappointed a couple of times worked last year (albeit he was recovering from a wind op) and part of me things if it’s not broken why mess with it? Be interesting to see if declared or not

I’m a recent backer of his too and share these opinions. Only build would be that given he’s reportedly an absolute nightmare to train, entering/declaring/running here when it’s a deviation from a plan that resulted in a Cheltenham success last year; would presumably give a vote of confidence to his well-being. Obviously that confidence would be very short-lived if he ran a shocker.

                          • Trouble is with Samcro, he's the type of horse you just cannot leave out of calculations. You just have to back him or he'll come back and haunt you .

                            • Please no, don't run him Gordon, you know what works.....................

It's bluster I'd imagine. He'll be there in peak shape, and nice and fresh in March.

                              • Seagull has put up

                                Melon 11/1

                                Mister Fisher 14/1

I do like Mister Fisher but i don’t get the love in from tipsters for this race, i feel he is a level below Min, Melon, Samcro on their Cheltenham form and have a feeling he had his day the last run when winning the rearranged Peterborough Chase.
