  • Was really looking forward today and hoping to see IA put in a good performance... Don’t think we will see him again to be honest and now even bigger questions marks over him.

solid jumper so was a surprised he got it so wrong, apparently there is a shadow at that fence but course clerk said it should have had no impact

Going back to Imperial Aura, IMO that effectively rules out an attempt at the GC, unless they decide to enter him for the Cotswold Chase. Despite the fact a rein got caught round his front leg, he seemed to run round OK in the background and jumped a couple more fences and a hurdle but whether he needs another run at this stage is debatable. Personally I would think they would go straight to the Ryanair and put today behind them as just one of those things.
The owner of Imperial Aura states the Ryanair was the horses target pre race. Fortunately the horse did fall and he unseated David Bass early in the race so hopefully none the worse.

Imperial Aura for Ryanair and Minella Indo for the Gold Cup could be my next related double

      • Not many options that I can think of for IA before Cheltenham.

I'd be tempted to run him again but would fancy going to Ascot against Cyrname.

        • Wasn’t interested before, definitely not now. The owner they had on before had and has it spot on.

          • KIm Bailey comments, after yesterday's fall.......

As for Imperial Aura’s trainer Kim Bailey, he felt a shadow in front of the fence was the reason behind the favourite’s departure.

Bailey said: “David Bass said there was a great big shadow in front of the fence and that’s his excuse. He said there was a big shadow there and he took his eye off it.

He will go to Cheltenham now, but for what race is rather difficult to work out. I’d imagine he will go straight there.

“There is only one other race to run him in and that’s the Ascot Chase, but that’s three weeks before Cheltenham which is too soon. The lucky suit is now out of the window!”

Rather difficult to work out - all of a sudden !!

Suffice to say, if he runs in the Ultima or any handicap off a rating of 163, the mans more of a c**t than I thought he was.

I have backed him for the Gold Cup NRNB, so I suppose that provides some hope.

But for Ryanair backers, this must be frustrating to read.
It is the obvious race, surely, with the Gold cup an option especially if ground's good and it cuts up a bit.

That is an odd set of words.

I think his price has stopped anyone even thinking about him as a bet now... I'd be amazed if he's not in the Ryanair though.

              • Old Kim has seen Frodon win a hcap in the 160s and thinks it's easier than winning the Ryanair.... The irony being the horse to do so had won a grade 1 and added another this season.

                • Is it possible the trainer is worried that his form is not good enough for a Grade 1 at the festival?
Must admit i am struggling to find the form that makes him a leading fancy for the Ryanair.

Probably but you're stuck between a rock and a hard place in the 160s really. Better off going for the G1 and if outclassed and beaten he can start to come down the hcapper with a view to a hcap or sights lowered in G2/3s.

                    • Going into any race at the festival after a fall would put me off.

He's just come out of his novice season though.
                        And looked good so far.
His price is wrong that's all.
He should be in the 12-1 bracket with other's like Mister Fisher, Melon and Allaho.

                        • But this is a Grade 1 against seasoned proven graded chasers.
He jumped well time before last in his Grade 2 and beat Itchy Feet 5l who definitely did not jump well. And Windsor Avenue is a mile off this sort of race.
Yes, hes just out of novice company, and has improvement, but looking at the race now, theres a fair few horses with better form at bigger prices
Agree his price is wrong, and now it seems his trainer may be thinking the race is wrong, from what i have seen i could understand that.

                            Technically, Imperial Aura didn't fall...

I mentioned the trend above about falling but, again, technically it was an 'Unseated Rider'.

I imagine that doesn't really change anyones opinion, it's certainly not a positive in any light.

                            • Other than the Gold Cup, where else would they really go?

Win a handicap off 163 and you're left kicking yourself for not giving the Grade 1 a go!

If the Irish didn't travel, the Ryanair would still look good. Imperial Aura, Saint Calvados, DDS, Cyrname, Mister Fisher, Waiting Patiently and Real Steel would be a decent betting heat.

No, but pushing him out to 8/1 or thereabouts I thought was an overreaction and I was looking to get him onside (another one I've managed to miss to now), if he lands here it would be hard to see him out of the three even with a 'U' next to his name.
From what I've read the Gold Cup entry was an error/curve ball and this is very much the plan.
Ideally everything else that is due to run here will impress over the next few weeks and IA's price will hold...
