I think you’ve nailed it really, ground is key. If you have an AP bet now (or already have), if it’s good to soft or better on the day you have a live one. Soft or worse and you’ve done your dough.

The thing about Sceau Royal is he's had 4 chances at the very top level (1 TH, 1 CH, 2CC) and failed each time. Good ground will help him though he has some decent form on softer ground. He could run into a place but I can't see him winning. I will try to remember to admit I was wrong if SR does win.

Hardly mentioned by any in their summaries of the race and understandable i suppose, but the race has a habit of cutting up and the short priced favourites don't always deliver.
How many thought Special Tiara or Politologue would be winning champion chases?
Sceau Royal is still only 9 and despite probably not being top level has been remarkably consistent. The key to him is clearly genuinely GOOD ground which he doesn't normally get, especially at the Fest.
In 2019 he was only a few lengths behind Altior. 5th of 5 last year but the ground was officially soft so I'm surprised they actually ran in retrospect. I just think he comes here in good form, with form in the race and he could be the each way play.
Beating a Gold Cup contender over 2 miles may have lack any motivation to back Sceau Royal for the QMCC
Ground is so key to this horse. I wont this back in early December and backed Sceau Royal at 55'ish on the exchange. TBH i nearly wrote that bet of, and although there's still a lot of Sceau Royal to do, he could be more of a player on decent, good ground

Yes, he's only grade 1 win was back here in novice company, but thats a CD win and he put up an impressive time. He also jumped and travelled extremely well
You have to scratch performances over soft/heavy ground, the horse simply doesnt enjoy it.
Third in the champ chase, a well run race
Second to Altior at the end of the season, again over CD
....
He has Altior worried 2 years back, but I think he's a grade 2 horse and would be pleasantly shocked if he won this. He could be a great each way bet following on from his performance over the weekend
I must watch that run, my eyes was all over Champ that day, and cant recall how SR travelled and jumped

For anyone that likes First Flow he's 14/1 best price, but 11/1 in the without Chacun Pour Soi market...
For 3 pts, I'd take the "without" price....
Haven't backed myself but thought it might interest someone.
I am looking at the Nube Negra price of 9/2 wondering if it's a bit of a shot to nothing at the moment.... beat Altior easily enough last time and Altior heads that market... Altior of course has the Cheltenham form, but 11 years old, not an ideal prep to go straight there (owner decision rather than trainer I think?)
The reason I haven't yet is last years winner is also 9/2... so is that a better bet?
I can see me adding Nube Negra at this rate but only because he's a 'gap' and I could make a book rather than being blown away with it being a cracking bet.

I got stuck in and I've backed him to win the QM, ground will be a massive positive but it goes against everything I've said about this race and what sort of horse you want... experienced, C&D horse. Also, Dan has thrown out some good horses this year, and I have a sense we've seen their peak performance.
Dunno... Dan could have a really good horse here, but CD is so critical IMO for this race

I know where are coming from, he was electric that day but he lack any chase form in top class grade. Dont know how he's jumping will hold when in the mist of a proper festival grade 1
He's one for the book, but I'm starting to go off him for the QM

Statistically it's not even close as to what ground she has ran her best races.
