If Rouge Vif gets his ground, he would be my choice

I think that's an excellent shout given the forecast.

                • Rouge fucking Vif.
Feel sorry for the horse who got hammered for winning a handicap against a poor field.
And gained a reputation with some people at the same time that with good ground he's a champion chaser.

That handicap he won at the start of the season.
The horses in behind have had 30 races between them since then -

1 win - Doitforthevillage who had dropped from a mark of 135 down to 121.
                  4 places.

He's just not that good is he ?
He was just made to look good on the day, and now is in a false position, in the wrong league. With a bad rating.

                    Bit harsh!!
He’s simply a horse that is very ground dependant as the form book shows, particularly shown in his 2 races with NN.
Every time he gets his ground he jumps well, travels well and wins.
He’s a big price so of course you can question him, but don’t be surprised if he’s running a big race.

                    • The point with Rouge Vif.

And his win early this season is that when you see something like that.
The natural thing for most punters to do is favour one extreme over the other.

                      There is the extremes of....

                      1. Thinking he's worldy on good ground.
                      2. Thinking he beat shit and looked really good doing it (was flattered)
                      3. Somewhere in between (not extreme)

Logic says immediately after the race the right thing to do was see it as somewhere in between. And wait.
Now we have more evidence, it's probably No2.

                        Harsh but fair.
I think he's opposition dependent myself.

Trainers good though, so you never know.

Ok , I do see what you are saying
He was one of the first horses I backed for this, thinking at the time how impressed I was with his jumping and travelling, and thinking he just could be value at the prices if he can get his ground. I still think that, and hope he does get his ground, then I will know if I was right or not.

                          • I think much of the positivity is due to the fact that we was available at 66/1 as they crossed the line and a few of us managed to get on at a big price.

do I think Rouge Vif win? No
do I think he has a better chance than a 66/1 shot? Yes

That's exactly it for me too.

As Q says, he's not as good as he looked at the time.

The question is would you back him on the day at 66s ... I would ew ...

I think (hope) their might be decent prices about him on the day too. The head of the market should shorted, Chacun's form so good, Altior a legend, Polito the defending Champion ... Hopefully there's a bit of drift further back in the market.
