You must have Notebook and Put The Kettle On already?

I'd cashed out on Notebook, but you make an interesting point...perhaps he should worm his way back into my plans.

      • No excuses from Paul Nicholls.... thinks Politilogue has run his race.
Full credit to the young improver.
Pleased with him, run right to his level, beaten by a horse who was best on the day.

Love Nicholls, he's all class isn't he.

Yeah kept both for now and probably won't change. Surely only thing that beats CPS is an injury or the fences, but then again, same was said about Douvan

          • Nicholls will be regretting running in that. He'd previously said he'd learnt how to campaign Politologue and he'd skip Ascot or Newbury and go the Festival fresh. I think they saw Chacun's run and thought they may as well run him because they won't lay a glove on Chacun in March.

Ultimately though First Flow has beat a 10 year old, a horse that is tripless at the top table and a handicapper in 4th.

There needs to be a series of injuries in Ireland for them not to be having the 1-2, possibly even the 1-2-3, for me. Wonder what price that is?

I appreciate Altior could come back from that first run out, and I do think he was beat by a horse that preferred the flatter track of Kempton than Altior does.
Nailed it COD. Absolutely nothing over here to worry any of the Irish horses.

                  He's older than a 7time G1 winner

                  • Chacuns to lose now ? Duc Des Genievres didn't do anything for the Kettle form today but they did ride him differently and he looked like he was sulking.

Very strange tactics from DDG, only reason i can think why they tried that was because they thought Polit and FF were going to go like scolded cats which they did.

                      • Have to say that seeing people writing off politologue has actually just made me laugh out loud

He is the reigning qmcc winner, was a close second the year before, and in between those runs and before them he threw in plenty of below par efforts yet still came back to form again, and he hasnt even ran badly today, he ran worse in this race last year before winning the qmcc, albeit obviously a poor quality edition.

He only faded late on today and wasnt helped by jumping slightly to the left the whole way around, which let first flow up on his inside and made life harder for himself.

Back going left handed at cheltenham in march on hopefully decent ground, i'd frankly be very surprised if politologue didnt reverse the placings and I still expect him to be CPS biggest opposition, if not the winner.

                        • Agree. 8/1 NRNB is very very good value for me. Will happily add them to some each way doubles closer to the time

He went straight to the Queen Mother off the back of bleeding in the Tingle Creek last season - didn't run in this. Paul is a realist (mostly) and I do think there is logic in their approach of trying to strike today when on paper he looked to have as good a chance as ever of landing another G1 and was supposedly bucking at home.

As you say, his jumping wasn't at his best today, notably left and guessy at others which is very unlike him. I do wonder to some extent with further time to ponder whether Harry didn't want to blow any chance in March by really going to head to head in conditions that were ideal for First Flow. Not to take anything away from the winner as he was wonderful to watch today and all credit to Bailey and Bass.

Nothing in the race report about Politologue bleeding in the 2019 Tingle Creek?
