One was head in chest pulling away and the other was very tired.

Shishkin has everything. He settles, he jumps, he stays and has shown he can battle when needed.

I see no chinks in the armour.

I've backed Chacun and clearly hes top level but I truly believe Shishkin is a monster.
What an odd thing to compare given different tracks and completely different rivals. Chacun has beaten two horses 155+ easily enough, i'm not sure how anyone can say Shishkins effort today was better than that.

The point being what he had left in the tank after supposedly being off the bridal

Shiskin raced on fresh ground which is likely to have contributed to the faster time. The Desert Orchid was ran at a faster pace early on which may have also led to them finishing slower. The big time difference was between 3 out and 2 out where Shiskin was over a second faster than Nube Negra and he was also over a second faster from the last fence to the winning line. Shiskin does look pretty special and will be very difficult to beat at the Festival. Henderson is becoming more and more cautious with age and very doubtful he would fancy taking on CPS in Champion Chase this year.

Well how else do you want me to compare the two horses as they haven't met yet ?

Let's put it another way then ........ Chacun never been round Cheltenham. Tired at the finish today and will have to face a much tougher finish in March. Is this another one of these superstars that cant get beat just like Epatente ?

Jesus i was stating it's an odd thing to compare as it's just guess work, they haven't been facing the same rivals or run at the same courses to compare times/ratings or distance beaten of rivals etc. I don't think I've ever mentioned Chacun on these pages but his effort today will be rated higher than Shiskins by all of the Racing bodies. If you think Shishkin today was far superior that's fine it's your opinion but using how a horse has finished in circumstances completely different is wayward at best imo.

I stated the way he finished in relation to him apparently coming off the bridal (Watch it again, I think you'll be surprised)

I like Chacun but very rarely do you win a championship Cheltenham race without a battle. We haven't seen hes capable yet.

Point being he has got Negatives.

I'm struggling to see a negative with Shishkin. Can do it all.

                • Chacun has been in battles

He was in a battle with min last year and easily burnt him off

And did the same thing to notebook today

He just doesn't do it in the final 100 yards he does it when he kicks for home 2 out

His cruising speed is so high and jumping so slick all the other horses are legless jumping the last

I dont have a penny on chacun for this race and have never been his biggest fan but i just couldn't see a horse as inexperienced as shiskin beating him

In the 2022 champion chase hed have every chance, with another year to gain experience and fill his frame

                  • I think a bit too much was made of Altiors lose to be honest. He wasn't blown away like some are saying he was. Was his first run after a injured period. His first run for nearly a year. He was just beat by the better horse today. Considering his oposition in this, he's still a player.

Chacun was 6ls clear after turnong for home? What battle was he in with Notebook? Thought he looked suspect in the fight against Min when the whip was drawn, I think he gives his all fairly freely and mightnt have much left to give when/if he comes under pressure.

Notebook doesnt handle Cheltenham. If Chacun handles the track he will win but plenty dont act around Cheltenham. PTKO certainly wont be any further than 8ls back around Cheltenham but Im not sure she can make up that distance and I see her placing. Similar story with Politalogue, has been winning races in very slow times dictating from the front. Wont get his own way in March but will prob bag a place too

                      • Chacun has been in one real battle at a finish which he lost.
looks abit weak to me. I hope I'm wrong but 2 miles looks to be his absolute maximum distance. With the stiff finish at Cheltenham I'd be slightly concerned if he really needs to dig in.

chacuns run style means the battle happens earlier in the race

Hes not an altior who travels in behind and pounces

He lifts the pace 2 or 3 out and simply burns off the inferior rivals (kind of like battaash on the flat)

The question will be how far ahead will he be when he hits the hill at Cheltenham

If something has the cruising speed to stay with him they could beat him, but iv not seen anything that will at this stage

There was no battle today, it was a shake of the reins and off he went with two great jumps at the last two. If they can be with him between the last two in Cheltenham when the whips are drawn then we have a race.

I cant see Chacun getting a run up the rail like he did in Leop, team Mullins ride the rest of them asleep, David keeping PTKO out wide by keeping 2 off the rail and leaving Chacun with a nice clear view of all his fences while crossing in front of Notebook, interfered with PTKO when dropping back to and forced her to switch inside. Chacun proceded with a clear run on the rail. Surely in Chelt Nicholls and HDB will ensure he has to go wide around the home bend with Polit and PTKO. If not they are in trouble
