What you're saying, is that it was correct not to run Altior on "soft" - yet he has won 6 times on "soft" ground, including a QMCC and this very race, a Tingle Creek last year?

I do trust connections to do right by the horse, the RACE HORSE, I expect them to run them.... otherwise they're just pets.

So, you either believe it was Heavy - or you don't think horses should run on soft ground? You genuinely believe it was cruel to run Altior yesterday?

Were the other trainers being cruel?

You've lost me.... I can't take that seriously.
Cruel ? I think you're getting very confused.

It's about bottoming a horse out as he was last year.

Where you get cruel from I really have no idea.

Hes an older horse now which means he needs to be minded, I'm sure you can understand that.

You clearly know more about horses needs that these people that look after horses on a daily basis.

Let me ask you a question........ Why do you think Altior was pulled out the race ?

    • Mullins on CPS

"I was hoping he might win a bit easier, but he needed it," said Mullins. "I had done just enough with him to complete the job. There is huge improvement to come and that will bring him on loads."

He added: "I'm a creature of habit so I would imagine we will head back to Leopardstown at Christmas with him now and chart the same course to the Champion Chase as last year."

      • Does Henderson expect the ground to be better at Christmas? Stop making excuses for this nonsense. He deserves to be condemned.

The first few minutes aren't that bad, but she's got him absolutely banged to rights. If you can't run NH horses on soft ground, we've got no sport.
Agree Kev, she sure did and he didnt really have an answer bar 'its my horse and i will look after it how i see fit' He acted a bit like a spoilt child wanting his ball back to me.

Hendo said it was a welfare issue so that eludes to it being cruel to run him. Basically, he was taking bollocks.

There's no conspiracy if he wont run on soft it's unlikely he'll have a prep for the festival or even run at the festival. Henderson said he made a mistake running him over a trip too far with inedaquate fitness at Ascot. You can't compare the two.

He pulled him out because he thinks
he would have lost. He's bottled the challenge and claimed its about welfare. Bollocks.

Why would running him in soft ground bottom him over 2m?

Last year if he was bottommed, how did he come back and win in Feb? Wasn't he on target for the QMCC?

You believe it was heavy ground to your eye, yet its factually incorrect.

My comment about it being cruel, is an extention of what you've said, you believe it was in the horses interest not to run, why is that correct about Altior but fine for Politilogue. He is 1 year younger, so effectively is Politilogue now bottomed because he was 10 and ran in soft ground like Altior was last year?

                    Its utter bollocks.

                    • I've got 2 main issues with what Henderson did with Altior yesterday. Firstly his insistence on the ground being heavy. Will he run Altior in the Champion Chase if the ground is the same as yesterday?

Also he says it took 2 and a half months to get him right after Ascot. If he ran yesterday and bottomed him out he'd still be right by mid February leaving a month to prime him for the Cheltenham. If he now runs at Kempton over Xmas will he run a second time before Cheltenham? I doubt it so there'd have been no harm in running him yesterday.

For what's it's worth I hadn't backed him so didn't lose any money on him but it was a bit disingenuous to not warn punters in his Unibet blog or elsewhere that he'd be pulled if the ground went (what he classes as) Heavy.

The last part I totally agree with and feel its the only thing hes at fault for.

Let's be honest ..... Altior has one main target and Henderson is going to tailor everything towards that target.

If he wins in March he'll be proved right in the decision he made yesterday.

I dont get the hoohaa to be honest.

                        • I think that’s the main point here, if he came out and said earlier in the week that altior only runs if the ground is suitable there wouldn’t have been as much made of it. Instead he was giving it the billy big bollocks talk as if altior v politilogue was a heavyweight boxing match and no hint that he might not run. This is what angers people and no I didn’t back him either.

Have now watched it back and was impressed. Jumped well on the whole and his best 2 jumps was his last 2 which is always a very good sign that there is plenty left in the locker. He really quickened away from them from two out which I like to see as well. He's very good. Just need him to get through his Xmas run and then wrap him up in cotton wool for March. He does look the one to beat.
