  • If you had your 10 pounds - where you put it if not CPS?

I'll need some more time to think that over.....

So wouldn't really buy into an inexperience angle at all - everyone would have said the same before those races. Come March he also will have another 2 chases into him which is more than enough.

On the competitive races bit - can it get any more competitive then the two races above for most 2m chasers? I haven't checked but I would bet good money he ran to a higher RPR in Lep than anything in the Champion Chase last season.

It will be the weakest of the Championship races IMO come March , similar to this year.

My view on Defi, and I'm strong on this.... Defi wants a crawl and sprint finish. If he doesnt get this, he's beaten. Wished I knew this 1-2 years ago, life would have been so much easier.
Race against CPS, defi didnt get those narrow race conditions, and was beaten. Full stop

Come March CPS will have another 2 races into him? How do you know this? He hasnt shown up, and has never run any more than two times. History has a funny thing repeating itself

I'm not having some dodgy RPR from Leopardstown. It's like using Cyrname RPR around Ascot

Lets not forget, this superstar, high RPR horse was turned over by A Plus Tard over 2 miles, as Biden would say "ohhh come on mannnnnn". Oh, you're going to say CPS wasn't race fit arent you where as A Plus Tard was.

Oh, and to answer your final question, If you had your 10 pounds - where you put it if not CPS?

I already have 10 pts placed on Altior, its documented in my AP diary on this forum, and I've already made my case in this thread a few weeks ago

      To summarise
      1) I want a horse that has experience at cheltenham. It's not only the fences, its that hill and some respond better than others
      2) An older horse, I've already said and proven my point that experience wins this race, horses that are in their 3-4 seasons and have bags of chasing form
      3) Wasn't keen on the Arkle form until its been proven. PTKO has put down a half decent marker, and could be improving but I still fancy Altio
      4) I feel Altior remains a top 160 horse despite his defeat and failed attempt over over further. I was concern that left a mark on him, but jump with enthusiasm and went away from the field after the last, he was gone!!
      5) I believe, its not a fact, but a Matt Chapman "its in the gut" feeling, that we're going to see a repeat of Sprinter Sacre's return to cheltenham to regain his title
      6) I'm a fan of Altior, throwing that in there because I need to be honest and would love to see him win again in March

Altior wins the Tingle Creek, bookies will clip his price in. He'll be the best horse in GB

Now, I know I wont persuade others to jump onto the Altior bandwagon, I'm not here to do so. I however will explain why I'm on him and add to this thread on calling out my concerns on why others may not win or (in this particular case) call out why their price is horrid

I think CPS is a hard to back antepost for multiple reasons.

Like 1 11 year old winning a Champion Chase in what the last 45 or so years...

Oh, you're going to say CPS wasn't race fit arent you where as A Plus Tard was.
APT had already run so obviously had a fitness edge - not sure what the argument is there or you weren't aware. I don't think anyone would disagree here on a fitness edge. Townsend also at the end said the horse blew up

My original point was ; I think CPS wins and Altior was a good saver in terms of profit making on the race at 13/2 and 8/1 which I backed them (I don't see others in the mix)... so we can end this until March

Yup, I'm backing a 11 year old for the Queen Mother. Just happens to be a horse that ran into the 170 last year, and has won at the festival multiple times - actually every time he's turn up there

          I'm taking CPS on

Haven’t checked but I suspect that’s a trend that goes back much further...

So unfair to say it was the weakest, a week before it was EASILY the strongest, with what looked like a QMCC for the ages!

(Just generally, not you personally now) I hate how a circumstance will change and all of a sudden it defines an entire division.

It's like when a player wins or loses a major final and it just defines them. It's like believing Mario Gotze is better than Messi because he won a World Cup and scored the winning goal.

                The context is everything.

Back to you though, the Ryanair has never and will never be stronger than a QMCC

                • The other unknown is does CPS handle the track and the hill? FWIW i am firmly in the PTKO camp and at some point i need to get on the Altior TC/CC double as my alternative. I have backed Fakir any race and he would be another dart should he turn up here. CPS wont be getting any of my dough until we at least see him declared and actually at the start line or i may even wait until NRNB

                  • I'm going to end up doing the wallet on Altior before the TC, I know it...sigh.

Heart ruling over head already in November

As great as it was to see her win having backed her for the Champion Chase myself, I don't think her rating will be changing one bit will it after that will it?

She still has an almighty jump to make.
Chacun 172?????? beaten by what is affectively a handicapper A Plus Tard.
Altior 172, chances of getting to the QM are 50/50 imo. I'll have him as my festival lay again this fez.
This race could cut up badly so very happy to watch the progressive PTKO take her chance.

Fakir D'Oud is the one I fear.

That altior double has halved in price now unfortunately

I had some on at 25s but its half that now with defi bombing out

Chacun wasn't fit that form is worth nothing

He improved a significant amount for the run smashing min to pieces who then went on to comfortably beat a plus tard

                              Still a good bet

The thinking being that he either wins both races or neither of them

Im sure he did improve FF. He's never been to the fez, which is a big negative, I can't have him at all. PTKO looks very progressive & has won over 2 1/2m so I'll take her over anything in this race. Thats what got her home yesterday having not jumped fluently. As for Notebook, well he's been to the fez twice and we all know what happened. I also think the ratings afforded for some of the English trained horses is to be taken with a large dose of salt. A really good debate going on with this race.
