  • I’ve had another point on Altior this morning, I can’t believe he’s 8/1 after finishing 2nd & 1st last season in his 2 starts at the top level. As much as Henderson fantasises about his stable stars you’ve got to believe the man when he’s stresses he’s still at the top of his game and if he is then better than the rest of the current QMCC field if he’s fit and well. Even at the age of 11 I’m sure he’ll power up that hill and catch anything within sight.

Plus we know he'll be campaigned sparingly with one target in mind, not like the monstrosity of last season.

I thought the Sky RAB a couple of weeks back for Altior to win the Tingle Creek and the QMCC was reasonable enough at 25/1 (might be 20/1 now). If he retains his ability and is going to be winning a 3rd Champion Chase he will want to be winning the Tingle Creek.

The Stayers has always been one of four championship races, the champion hurdle, the Champion chase, the Gold Cup and the championship staying hurdle.
Last March there was a marked change in the promotions for Thursday, all the bunting around the course was ‘Ryanair’ with pretty much no mention of the Stayers.
I can only assume that Ryanair pump more money into race sponsorship and get the recognition because of it...

I think I’ll have a punt on that RAB too if I get any returns from my Masters bets, I agree he should win the Tingle Creek

Henderson admitted both he and connections got it all wrong last year, I think they’ll stick to the path of 2018/19 and hopefully he’ll be primed for his possible retirement title tilt in March

              • Put the Kettle On into 14/1 with Betfair/Paddy Power and 12/1 with Bet Victor. Big run clearly expected this weekend.

                • Personally can't have Altior at all this season. There were signs in his last CC win that perhaps he was on the decline and then last season he didn't look Happy at any stage against Cyrname. Brilliant chaser but I think this season will prove time has now caught up with him.

I don't actually agree with that. When it was a 3 day Festival, the Stayers was very much a supporting event. It only became a 'championship' race when they went to 4 days. Even the Champion Chase has only been going since 1959.

                      • Its funny the stayers is probably the least 'championship-y' of the championship races it just doesn't have the same aura around it. In my gambling life time i have seen Inglis Drever beat barracuoda, Big bucks at his imperious best and thistlecrack look like Pegasus but for me its just not as illustrious as the other 3.

                          Great age brings great wisdom.

                          • Apologies archie I appear to have edited your message whilst attempting a response with quote.

‘That’s fair enough, loose use of the word ‘always’.
If you delve back far enough the old 4 miler was considered the feature race of the meeting yet there’s been a big call to get rid of that in recent years, how times change...’

Is what I was trying to say...
