  • Regarding Put The Kettle On........no Mare has ever won the Champion Chase. That does sound a little worrying maybe......or maybe not. Only 1 mare has ran in it this century and she unseated at the 1st! This year PTKO became the first mare to win the Arkle for 40 years. In 1980 Anaglogs Daughter made all and won by 20 lengths. Amazingly it was her 86th race on flat/jumps. She actually ran 4 days later and won at Chepstow. AD was made hot fav to win the following years Champion Chase but was lame 2 days before the race. She recovered sufficiently to take her place but not surprisingly finished 2nd. The crazy thing is if she hadn't gone lame she would have ran in the Gold Cup the following day !

      • A shot at racing immortality would surely be too much to turn down, even if she was a 6/4 chance for the mares chase??

Absolutely. The owners made the decision to go for the harder Arkle race as opposed the Novice Handicap. They will do the same this year and target the Champion Chase. She has a fabulous chance.

          • Arkle winner should go Champion Chase. However its possible she could go to 1 of (or both) the tingle creek and DRF and get smashed up by Altior/Defi and Chacun then they would have to give serious thought to the Mares chase. I havent bet her for either race but those with the big price TWAR tickets may be sitting on a decent bet in a few months.

            • The problem with PTKO being smashed up during the season then diverting to the Mares Chase, is if she hasnt gone forward in open company then she may not be a good for that race either.

If she dropped 5lb or more by underperforming from her current 155 rating, maybe..........

I know we are joking but that's why I like the TWAR bet. She could end up anywhere should she not come up to scratch. Fully expect her to prove herself top of the 2 milers though. She did look very exciting last season especially in her 2 runs at Cheltenham.

Yes TWAR is very good for horses that can run in multiple races.

My usual rule of thumb on it Where there are two potential races a horse could run in, would be to use TWAR when it’s better than ditching the horse in the two races.

Looking at the WH TWAR Lobos, which two or three horses in the current market due you think TWAR at the prices?

                      • If everything lined up I could see her behind Chacun altior defi & politologue in which case no bet on her was considering for a while but just don’t think she’s good enough! Interesting listening to Barry about defi on the FFP he still seems to think a lot about him

Absolutely, DDS is a dual festival winner - I certainly won't be giving up on him yet. Question is which race?

The WH market specifically I'd say Fakir, Elixr and Angels Breath. There isn't much value left......think us lot have hoovered it all up !

I reckon it'll be a very late call either way.

They've said he'll take in similar races this season.

Personally I think Ryanair, but I won't be annoyed if I'm wrong as I'd rather have an incredible QMCC than have a favourite in a Ryanair.

I agree with all of that.

Will have to start getting some free bets on DDS for the ryanair. 7/1 TWAR doesn't appeal at this stage.
