Despite all that she still had the class to pick him up, a former Arkle winner himself, and she ate up the hill as though it wasn't there.

If I were Willie or Nicky I would definitely be worried about giving her 7lbs around a course that suits her perfectly. Some will continue to crab her though, and those same people will probably say it's a crap Champion Chase when she wins that too and they haven't got a penny on. As hard as it is, and as guilty as we can all be of it sometimes, it just pays to accept the obvious. And in this case the obvious is that she's a class act around Cheltenham.

She's (staggeringly!!!) 14/1 for a race with only two serious rivals, that are ageing/fragile, and now have more to prove than her. Anyone that doesn't have her covered at least each way is bonkers!
Whilst i admit she hasn't harmed her chances and you can't help but admire her attitude and love for the course she hasn't beaten anything today that imo is any better than what was in the arkle in March. Defi ran another stinker for whatever reason, DDG if he had won today i wouldn't be thinking he was all of a sudden in the CC picture(never rated him much). the price is fair(since clipped to 10s) and i will admit she is putting her name in the picture by keep winning + the claim but does anyone believe she has beaten anything today that was any better than March?

      She's 10/1

Those two rivals have both produced form way above what she has achieved. Altior needs zero explanation for that. Chacun beating Min I feel is far superior to anything she's achieved.

I'd have Min ahead of Put The Kettle On, and Min isn't Willie's best.

The 10/1 now for Put The Kettle On isn't a better bet than Altior at 8/1.

The caveat is I'm on PTKO at much bigger prices, but rather than get carried away with this mediocre form (which is all that it is!) I think 2 pts shorter for ALTIOR is a better bet at this stage.

I'm allowed to re-assess that after he's had a run, but he's about to run at fav for the Tingle Creek (a G1) and if he wins that, would you rather have taken 10/1 now about PTKO, or 8/1 about the previous QMCC winner, that's just picked up a G1?

I like PTKO, honestly I do, but this mantra she's now the one to beat is wide of the mark surely!

Your last sentence, Altior has more to prove than Put The Kettle On?! Altior?! I'm not having that. You would have to have completely dismissed any way at all in which Altior retains ANY ability. He'd have to have regressed so much for that to be true? (Could happen, of course)

Put The Kettle On hasn't reached Politilogue's level yet, let alone Altior's!

      • Before today

        Chacun Pour Soi 172
        Altior 172

        Put The Kettle 154

As great as it was to see her win having backed her for the Champion Chase myself, I don't think her rating will be changing one bit will it after that will it?

She still has an almighty jump to make.

        • Depends whether you think either can run up to their previous ratings I guess. I don’t.

Though in the same way, they may not need to either !

CPS and Altior are at different ends of the scale there.... Altior is unlikely to, CPS can definitely hit that again can't he? He's not too old. He only had a bruise.

They'll probably pop her up a bit, even though it was DDG... a 160 horse on OR?

Of course he can, whether he will...

                • I’m amazed DDG is 160! That’s mental
So on that basis PTKO probably willl bump up a tad.

I definitely don’t see Altior hitting 170s anymore at all.
my guess is he might be able to hold mid 160s for a little while longer.

CPS should be able to and there’s actually no reason why he couldn’t go higher. IF Altior wins the TIngle Creek And CPS wins in March they’ll probably go wild on CPS rating...if DDG is anything to go by!!

                  • I'd have them running to the following marks come March (I feel it in my gut)

Chacun Pour Soi 168 (now 172)
Altior runs to a 164 in Tingle Creek, but a 169 at the Fez (now 172)
Put The Kettle may improve up to 159 - 160 mare

Which would make for a close race. Need to get all of them there, and hopefully the other boys succeed in their prep runs

Ah leave it so, she would give Politalogue a right beating. The only horse Altior has beaten in the lsst 18 months is Sceax Royal who was lapped in the QMCC. He may well be as good as ever but he has to show it on the track. Chacuns run v Min last Feb looks decent form but the only other finisher was Ornua, before that Chacun was beaten by A Plus Tard. I think the market has it right for now, the tingle creek will tell us more on Altior

                      • Fakir D’Oudaries at 20-1 anyone? 2nd to PTKO in Arkle and for a mistake near the end of race could have been another story. The two at front of market both have had their problems, but that said one of them turn up I expect them to win, but I quite fancied fakir in arkle and just wondered peoples thoughts on him going here, especially in light of defi pulling up. Don’t like less than 16-1 for ew bets and 14-1 any race haha. Anyone any thoughts or news?

Best price is only 10/1 now...

Altior at 8/1 is very fair still IMO.

Chacun to be fair is shorter than he should be, connections definitely factored in as well.
Both the TC and CC tend to have less than a dozen runners and very few head on confrontations so I am firmly in the Altior camp for both races at 7/2 & 8/1....... Wait and see !

I was very sweet on FD Smiley and got stuck into him at 25s soon after the Arkle, I still haven’t written the bets off but there was talk of him stepping up in trip and the assumption is that he’ll target the Ryanair but Defi, for me, is not JPs Champion Chase horse so I live in hope FD will land here come March...

Can't have him for this at all, finds 1 better too often and among those we have Pentland Hills and Fusil Raffles, who aren't CC level.
In the Arkle, Fakir got up near PTKO on the turn but couldn't go past, scuffed the 2nd last but jumped the last well enough and managed to get up to PTKO again on the run in but couldn't get past and in the end was well held. For me he had his chance but didn't/couldn't take it.
