    Aso - 100/1

Previously second in the Ryanair behind Frodon (who is a 12/1 shot) it's fair to say he hasn't gone on to match that run since. However, his latest run at Kelso last weekend had some spark behind the now Grand National favourite in Cloth Cap.

The most impressive performance though, and reason he has a huge shout in the Gold Cup, is his unlucky fall at the last in the Virtual Grand National. He jumped like a stag from the front and was absolutely TANKING when he came down. I think we can mark him up for that race and if he runs like that, he'll make 100/1 look absolutely ridiculous.

Interestingly, Saint Calvados missing from the official confirmations.

Melon surely only in as a backstop for ABP so a 10 to 12 runner field looks likely.

....I’m well and truly on the Kemboy bus, seems a little forgotten in discussions but I can see him getting backed on the day.

          Good luck Archie,

I think he said he made a mistake regarding Saint Calvados, he isn't entered (as per the officials)

            • I wouldnt be at all surprised if melon comes here.

mullins team looks a bit lob sided towards the ryanair with allaho, min , melon and tornado flyer all possibly going there and only al boum and kemboy for the gold cup.

with three of his four ryanair possibles liking to be ridden from the front, and the good chance of good to soft or even better ground by the friday, I can see him giving melon another go at three miles.

we know donnelly doesnt mind his horses clashing, and it isnt conclusive yet that melon doesnt stay, with the prospect of better ground he might just have a chance.

                Good luck Archie,
Cheers. Danny says he has a plan! Hopefully a cunning one.

If it stays dry, you'd have thought that would be against Native River, Santini and Royale Pagaille.

                • Have made this point before, but think we are in danger of missing something right under our nose....at least to ensure we cover the possibility in our books

Imagine a year with a pretty average Gold Cup field......and the champion trainer and one of the most successful in this race still training had a horse in it......imagine that horse loved Cheltenham and nearly always won there......imagine it had even won a previous Ryanair (like Imperial Commander did) and also was the current King George winner.....imagine the same horse had run the best RPRs in the race apart from the fav (and those were only a couple of pounds behind).....imagine that the horse had been kept fresh since December and trained for the race by the same genius trainer with no prep issues.....now finally, imagine the weather forecast fell just right for that horse

What price would we expect that horse to be ? Let's say 14-1 few days before the race

Would we all ignore it ???

                  Yet most are.......so why?

What makes this even more crazy is that we are all racing fans and if we could write one headline for the week we would love to see, it would be this horse winning

I know most will laugh....and you may well be right.......but, if he still leads at second last i will be jumping round the room shouting (despite other horses being more profitable).......but i would really hate not to have something on even if a free ew

                    • Frodon winning would be Lord Windemere levels of underwhelming for me.

                      • Frodon would be a lovely story at a time when racing could do with one, but this will be a proper Gold Cup and when push comes to shove this, I’m sure, will be a couple of fences and a couple of furlongs too far...

Agree, but won quite a bit on him.....was also ignored despite obvious credentials from previous year

I honestly don’t disagree.....but 14-1 ? Is that really correct price ? Same as a handicapper never run over 170 ....who may not even run

Different people will have different views but you have a reigning double champ and worthy fav, two genuine threats, 3 or 4 more who would have a great chance if returning to form and a few rags who could surprise.
This isn’t me being difficult but I’d say he should be a 20/1 shot...
