If HMS Santini can't chug through heavy ground then nothing can

Sounds like he goes straight to GC

Oh quite. Notwithstanding that all of his best form has come when the ground is hock deep.

                • Hendo says he’s a stuffy horse who needs plenty of racing.

And extreme conditions over a stiff 25f looks about the minimum of his stamina.

GC it is then. They won't be able to ignore that rating.

                        • A lot of people are getting quite excited about Royal Pagaille running in this due to his rating, but for me he is very opposable here. Firstly, all his form this season is at flat tracks, Cheltenham will be a new test which should also be factored into his price but I am not sure it has. Secondly, his first attempt in graded company (excluding graded handicaps) would be a Gold Cup, which is very ambitious in my opinion. Given how competitive the Gold Cup already appears and how differently graded races tend to be run compared with handicaps (particularly the Gold Cup) there is a strong possibility that even with his now 166 rating he might not be able to compete with proven horses with similar ratings who have the experience. I accept I can't rule him out, a young improving horse who has performed very well all season, but surely he represents no value.

                            Yep, I agree.
To be fair, most if the chat has been about the merits of him taking his chance.
Only one or two think he's got a really good chance of giving the FAV a race.
And one of them was adamant he wasn't going to run here at all, and is the head of a secret and sinister crime organisation.

They're not mutually exclusive.... I'm getting quite excited, but see why he's opposable.

What we'll probably see naturally play out, is the people who have big prices on him liking him, those that don't are aware of those prices on here and therefore would find it even harder to be at the price he is now.... creating more of a gap than there is.... when in reality, most people who haven't backed him, would want the 75/1+ slips, and most people that have backed him would admit they wouldn't fancy him at whatever he is now?

A few years back (which I have mentioned recently so apologies for repeating) I would not have entertained a novice winning the Gold Cup. Since then, Coneygree and Thistlecrack's King George win have completely changed my mind (duh!).... a horse on the up, in form, should take their chance while the going is good and the curve is on an upward trajectory... I know full well when I started out I'd have been firmly in the camp saying he's not good enough, not shown it etc etc, but enough horses have 'surprised' me in this race and made me look stupid for me to ever get that dogmatic about it again.

Can't wait for Percy to pick him up after the last

This is spot on, and I find myself in the onlookers category.

I must admit that when the day comes and he's in the line up on declarations.
He'll look like one of the sexier options, which I normally like. Rather than the boring ones like Santini.
If I'm sitting on others in the race at nice enough prices (and I am at present) he'll probably be high on the list for a cover bet.

The Fav will go in saver doubles on the day like last year.
