  • I’m on for the NH Chse at bigger prices but took the 14s nrnb for this straight after the race. Some watch and would love to see them have a go here.

    • FWIW, I think he'll come here now, and I thought he was ultra impressive and will be rated enough, but he's trotted round against trees, albeit giving them weight, do we think that's Gold Cup winning form?

Hard to say when one wins as easy as that id say? But stayed the 3 mile 2 on heavy ground there without coming off the bridle. Looks exciting to say the least.

        • Wouldn’t suggest he can’t win a GC, but wouldn’t be going overboard off the back of today’s race. Very different track, likely very different conditions, vastly improved opposition and likely be going a much faster pace.

Lovely if you’re sitting on a 90/1 docket or whatever but definitely wouldn’t be rushing to back him at 20/1 or less.

Any of the horses at the head of the Gold Cup market should have been doing that....

Can you imagine Santini doing it though?

It was stylish, all it does really is prove he's much better than a handicapper....

They could easily take up a novice race.

Makes Henderson fishing round and moaning about not having any races for Champ look like even more of a twat.

              • Other thing to consider is that this year he won’t have to face Monkfish and EA, which could make the race look more competitive next year. Haven’t backed him yet for any race but thought the Gold Cup field has looked pretty bland all season and needed something to come from left field to spice it up. Personally hope he goes here.

Ah what did she say I missed it?

I was livid 'they' went for the Gold Cup with Coneygree at the time and hindsight showed I was an absolute weapon for thinking that!

Since then I've always liked it! (Have to admit when you're wrong don't you!) It made Thistlecrack's novice campaign (winning a King George) much more enjoyable as a fan of the sport.

Nothing that was clear either way Kev, but reading between the lines she seemed very bullish. Wouldn't rule it out and said she needs to speak to Ricci.

Matt Chapman went on to say that the Ricci camp have said they will wait to see what the handicapper does with him before they decide

Yes.. She wasnt even at Haydock today to watch him, anyone know why charlie wasnt onboard too..seems strange they both choose to go to ascot when their probable stable star came here.

What difference does it make with what the handicapper does?

He's not going for a handicap is he

Letting the handicapper decide (meaning 'if he gives him a big rating, they'll try it') is silly, 'cos he definitely will. They love getting the big numbers out

I think he'll go for the Gold cup myself, 95% sure of that.
However, if I was inclined to think differently I'd chance the NRNB double for him in the RSA and Galvin in the four miler. Or just the bet for the RSA alone.
If something happened to Monkfish, he replaces him as 7/4 FAV or shorter.
And they've left Galvin's price today, even though one of his potential rivals now looks likely to run elsewhere.

                              • In fact I'll do the RSA bet, just in case.
