  • A Plus Tard entered for Betfair Chase. Maybe they are going to step him up.

It is a Left-Handed Graded race, over the wrong trip, so it’s the right way round, and no different to him running over 2M

Think he'll get a Grand National entry as well.

        • Sounds like Keith Donaghue is keen for The Storyteller to take his chance in the GC.

          • Quite pleased to see Ifthecapfits declared to run in the intermediate chase tomorrow over 3 miles.
Same race that Santini laboured to win last year.
Having backed at big prices for the GC I'd be encouraged if he could beat the 2 opponents tomorrow.
Race obviously lacks depth, he gets weight, they are reasonable stayers.

He probably should be winning handily.
            Unlike Santini did.

              Ignore that.
I have to stop getting him and Itchy Feet mixed up.
It must just be the letter they begin with, which is ridiculous.

I've backed him for the Marsh so in actual fact the RSA would come right into the reckoning if he wins well tomorrow.

              Wrong Thread totally as well

                • This'll please a few...

                  MELON
He has a good record at Cheltenham, four second places, it'd be great to convert him into a winner there this time.
Over fences he could go up in trip - he could be a Gold Cup horse, he jumps and gallops and stays well. Maybe the Gold Cup trip might suit him. Hopefully he'll get his head in front one of these days but at the moment I haven't hardened on a target for him and we'll see as the season progresses.

                  • After all the heartbreak of finishing second again and again, imagine the one Melon actually wins is the Gold Cup.

When Willie started mentioning a tilt at the Gold Cup after the Ryanair I don't think many thought it would happen.

But the fact he's still banging on about it makes me think he's determined to give it a go.

Melon's only run four times over fences so his second - maybe a shade unlucky - to be beaten a nose in the Ryanair was some effort.

And for a horse who has been second in two Champion Hurdles, a Supreme and a Ryanair I reckon 66-1 is a hell of a price.

In the last four Festivals Melon's been beaten two-and-a-quarter lengths, a neck, 15 lengths and a nose.

                      That is some record.

And I just don't see the bookies offering anything bigger - exchange apart - even if Melon doesn't do anything electric in the build-up to Cheltenham.

I'm going to risk a little each way bet and trust Willie gets his way - and convinces the owner to go for the dual forecast!

Melon will lose badly at some stage before March.
And a big price will be available on the exchange I reckon.
Could be wrong, but history tells us this is likely.

But he's an each way price with the bookies. Not so keen on win only on the exchange.

He's run four fantastic races at Cheltenham now and we know he acts around the track, but we just need to pick the right race for him to win one in March. He gave an exhibition of jumping with Patrick [Mullins] in the Marsh and the Gold Cup would have to be on our radar as he certainly stays two and a half miles well. It's been a lucky race for his owner too.

                                I agree.

Purposefully avoiding a horse with 4x festival 2nd whilst he is 66/1 for a named target would be counter productive.

The place part at 66/1 is the appeal..... if he won, mega bonus
