  • Thrilled and gutted. Disappointing that David put his whip down in the last 50 yards. A couple of good swings might have connected with APT and put him off.
At least he put Presenting P*sstake back in his box.

All of Willie's will get the DRF entry and they are still totally flexible about the Cheltenham race for Melon and Allaho.

there was something iffy about the race today and melon/kemboy were walking towards the end after a prolonged battle

Not sure the extra distance on a stiffer track is what he wants at Cheltenham

But happy to be proved wrong

        • Not saying they should but does anyone think Frodon will be given a tilt at the GC now. Ryanair done, king George done. What’s left only the GC. I’m a sucker for a story and while thinking with my head I can’t see him having the qualities needed to win part of my heart keeps seeing the headlines of Bryony’s smile being led in by a punching the air Nicholls. I’ve had a couple of gins this afternoon admittedly but am hovering over the 16/1 each way

The story alone should be enough if that does it for ya?

I don't think 16/1 is good value myself but if everything drops right for the horse he is clearly of G1 winning quality.

Personally don't think the stars will align but I've backed worse horses in my life for this

              • Think I'd give up the game if Frost and Frodon win the bloody Gold Cup.

Though I've backed A plus tard, I can't help but agree with this. The grinder delta work dropped as did the fav. Samcro, fakir, Allaho were all potential non-stayers and it seems melon and kemboy slit each others throats from a long way out.

Most of the field weren't put in the race

                    was a weird watch

A plus tard did ridiculously well to win tbf but i saw it as the ones in front stopping not him flying home

I’m ashamed to admit I completely copied his bets and I’m glad I did even if it does make me a copy cat and leech!! Today’s Savilles Chase was an incredible field, it involved all the best chasers Ireland has to offer and really put the cat amongst the Antepost pigeons. It was a whose who of graded chasers of Ireland and whilst I was expecting a different result it was a refreshing change. It’s going to cause chaos in the Ryanair and Gold Cup minefield, I haven’t got a clue whose going where at this point but some horses are clearly not 3 milers!!

Not sure id class it as an incredible field, competive yes, but definitely not incredible. Its becoming more and more obvious that ABP apart, the staying chasers just aren't up to much. Minella indo could still be very good, champ is an unknown, santini is going to run his race again, but apart from that I can't see anything in that field today competing jumping the last in March. The biggest winner today was ABP with his feet up in closutton

I agree with most of that, especially the last part

Absolutely bang on. I do believe it will be Champ and ABP fighting it out. I’m very keen on Champ. ABP has the experience in the bag. Santini as said will run his race but just don’t think is quite good enough. That leaves minella indo who can’t be judged fairly today.

I just can’t leave Frodon out the equation as much as my head tells me no

                            • After today's race I've come to the conclusion that last year's gold Cup was pretty terrible. This season Santini, LiT, Real Steel have all performed poorly and Delta Work, Presenting Percy and Monalee haven't set the world alight either. I still think ABP is the right favourite but do think he's vulnerable to the up and comers like Minella Indo, Champ and after today A Plus Tard.

I stand by the description ‘incredible field’ pre race, apart from the ABP that was a stellar field in terms of numbers, reputations and achievements so far. Apart from ABP there weren’t many other Irish big guns missing of that starting field?? The races itself was an anticlimax though, I did expect a bunched finished and was expecting Minella Indo and Presenting Percy to have done better but that’s jumps racing. I hope the Gold Cup field is something similar.
