Native river will ensure that doesn't happen

I'm not saying he's going to win just that he will either set a gallop himself or pressure the other prominent runners into making the race a greater stamina test

It should suit all the protagonists really bar maybe champ who's jumping could fall apart if he hasn't improved
I'd be surprised if he was allowed to lead as he probably hasn't got the pace to do so these days, there will be others in the race that would want to go faster.

Although the middle part of the race, when he caught up in 2019, could be where he helps sustain a gallop maybe.

Be difficult to do at his age now, as there will be some younger/keener horses willing to lead I think. But it's not out of the question, as we may get a field of hold up merchants.

    • You're missing my point

All im saying is him being there means we won't get a repeat of last years race

Where they went so slow a load of non stayers were still in contention at the end of the race

I'm not saying hes going to set some blistering pace that burns horses off or anything like that

        I'm not.

I simply don't think he could set a good enough gallop for long enough anymore, if he does lead, they'll not be going that fast.

        • I'm sure hes still capable of setting a pace that means obvious non stayers like real steel aren't on the snaff two out in a gold cup

          • The last of the 6/1 has finally gone tonight on Al Boum Photo. Never thought it would have lasted this long. He's still got to be one of , if not the best value price on the market surely?

25 length winner of last years Gold Cup you would have to think so.

I just googled it there and it is infact impossible for him to lose.

              • This years Gold Cup will without doubt be a proper run race. If they all turn up on the day there will be many forward going horses in comparison to last year.

Minella Indo, Native River and Frodon with the former being my strong fancy. Alot of people will believe this will suit a strong stayer such as Santini. I genuinely believe Santini will be too far back to figure at the finish. Al Boum is clearly the one to beat but I think the best of MInella Indo will be seen this term. Champ struggled to go the gallop in the RSA and I expect it to be a similar situation with both Santini and Champ in the Gold Cup only this time we wont get the freak finish we saw last March.

Well this is what I'm hoping for anyway

                  Almost certainly not tbf

Because he will only run at tramore its unlikely he goes off shorter than 3/1

If he wins again at Tramore and gets to the Fez in A1 nick then the Irish will not let him go off at 3/1 to make it a hat trick of Gold Cups on the final day . You'll be very lucky to see 6/4 about him.

That is a massive exaggeration I think 6/4. I will be shocked if any horse goes off at that price in this years gold cup no matter what happens between now and March.

If he goes off 6/4 then there will be some mighty e/w plays on the day! Can't see it myself but would love the market on the day if you are anywhere near right.

                          • I think Lobos could be right, and the price on the day may well collapse, although this will without doubt hinge on the other runners and how they fare on their way to the festival. If the form is a bit up and down and raggedy, then he may go off very short indeed.

Best Mate went off at 8/11 for his third, and there were 10 runners, and he'd been beaten first time up that season and then won a fairly weak Ericsson chase (beef or salmon aside) at Leopardstown over Xmas.

If Epatante, Envoi, Easysland and Shiskin win, ABP will go off 1-2 fav...........and everyone on here will retire.

It would certainly have an impact, although the market can sometimes be perverse - especially when the bookies start chasing
