He may never win a Gold cup, and you are entitled to rule him out, we all have to make a call at some point.
But it's daft to not be able to see a scenario for him to win.

Santini only out to 10/1
I was hoping they got silly.
Never going to happen given that he was beaten a head I suppose....
Although you'd think he was thrashed by some of the comments on here

I think that was better result than his seasonal reappearance last season and think how far he improved for the cotsworld . Aintree is not a track that is set up to suit santini but two furlongs out I did think he would grind that out and get up (race fitness?) . It is very amusing seeing santini off the bridle and being worked 9 furlongs out , but he does just plod on by and i thought he would win when he went upside. He is rated too high for the national is would carry too much weight surely. I can still see him in the frame march and thought the bookies would keep him at current odds .

If they'd have taken the form literally, beaten by a 10yo handicapper, they could poush him out to 50/1 ..... then based on his GC run last year, I'd lap that up.
I'm obviously exaggerating that price, but 16/1 would have had me considering it... 20/1 I reckon I'd have backed him.
He's half that, so while I definitely won't rule him out, I won't be backing him at that price.
Easy enough decision.

Santini needed the run there. He was carrying enough condition. Given we know Lake View Lad’s level of form I’m surprised anyone would do anything other than just ignore the race.Luck is a dividend of sweat. The more I sweat, the luckier I get.

Agree with Spectre that we didn't learn anything about Santini there other than he didn't look fit. Maybe a different pilot might have helped and ommitting all those fences made a mockery of the race overall. IMO we saw once again that Frodon probably doesn't have the stamina for the GC.
The most informative bit of GC news this weekend must be that WM is considering stepping Melon up in trip.
He must have known we now have a special emoji just for him
