He isn't a horse to back ante post though, 50/1 would still be skinny. Maybe on the exchanges you could make it worthwhile?
How sad would it be if it ever happened behind closed doors though after the reaction he got at Christmas in Ireland you could imagine it with a packed cheltenham on gold cup day bringing the roof down!

Anyway back to reality, agree not an antepost angle, exchange would be the only place to get a silly price. Perhaps an entry over something like 3m would see some bookies price him up but as you say doubt it would be bigger than 50/1+ through fear alone.

Imagine a few would jump on though.

    • Without cheating, who is Tizzy talking about here:

He is going to go for the Great Yorkshire Hurdle at Wetherby on Charlie Hall weekend as a prep run for the Ladbrokes Trophy at Newbury. He is only one win from being a Gold Cup type of horse.

I completely ignore what that man says. It could be any horse, that could be a Grade 1 winner, or a Grand National winner.
Much prefer to self-assess the form of his horses, rather than listen to Colin.

            • I suppose any horse is only one win away from being a Gold Cup horse.

              • Just listening to Gordon Elliott talking up Presenting Percy from 6th October on Betfair.... if I hadn't already backed him, I definitely would have

I think he must be my favourite horse in training still.

I think Minella Indo was the best horse in the RSA last year and Blackmore can be attributed some of the blame for the defeat. Got caught in a battle too far out with Allaho and also steadied into the last for a slow jump when she could have gone for one and landed with momentum putting the race to bed. In her defence she probably thought she only needed to pop it as she had the other horse beat. He idled badly on the run in also. Def the horse to take out of the race for me.
Agree totally.....i def think it was a ride Rachel would want back......tho not sure Monalee would have won.....and he is prob too old for this year

Minella Indo is prob my biggest fancy for this.......had so few races, so can improve lots.......and i believe plan is more racing for him this year. He should beat Champ in a re-match. Be quite some moment if Rachel makes up for last year and hides to glory this year (racing be on every front page over weekend)

Don't you think the national will be his main aim tho? Not that he can't win both, but it would be a concern

According to Gordon on that podcast, the Gold Cup is the main aim ... but I'd take that with a pinch of salt.

                      • Didn't he say that he was being trained for the Gold Cup but he could be a National horse? Basically keeps options wide open.

Al Boum Photo and Monalee keep franking his form

My opinion hasn't really changed from when we found out he was moving to Gordon....

                          I lose a value loser.

50/1 is/was a fair enough stab when Elliott only really has Delta Work in his arsenal, as I don't imagine Battleoverdoyen will be good enough and it's a fair leap with Champagne Classic too.

Whilst it's feasible he gets plotted towards a marathon trip (Irish Grand National) I believe his festival record entitles him to be campaigned like the good horse he is.

Delighted to have 50/1, but I'm perfectly aware 50/1 is closer to fair than it is good value.

118F is his Cheltenham record, and if you put your percy-tinted glasses on, that F would have been a place in a Gold Cup at least (as we know he's better than ABP and Monalee)

He'll probably run in the Gold Cup and the Grand National won't he? Disappoint a few times on the way to the Gold Cup to help his mark.....can run then in the GC with the handbrake off.

We’ve been very happy with him since he joined us. Watching it back again, he was running very well in the Gold Cup when he fell. He probably needs to improve a bit to get in amongst the very best staying chasers around, but he’s more than entitled to have a crack at them. We are looking towards the Ladbrokes Champion Chase at Down Royal to start him off in. Longer term, he could be one for the Grand National.

Since his best form by far is over hurdles, won't he find the GN fences to be a bit too high.....I would much prefer a crack at the Stayers.

                                His best form by far?

His RSA win is better than his Pertemps win for starters, and that's his best hurdles run isn't it?

Placed in multiple Grade 1 chases?

I would be with him in the Stayers too.... but I'd back him for a 5f sprint
