He is now the barometer for how shit (or not) the second season hurdlers are.

      • bit of a left field one this but from recent comments from Middleham park racing it seems Marie's rock is possibly going down champion hurdle route.

she's 50s with bet365 and 14s any race and they are aiming her at the Gerry Feilden Hurdle where hendo started epatante.

I know she has a lot to find but looked like she was a star last year and had bags of potential to improve. the fact they are talked champion hurdle seems to suggest she's come on.

couldnt take 14s so the 50s is appealing as its similar to a whole bunch of horses who are listed in the market where they are either chasing or likely have other targets.

Wow. Henderson was really upbeat about her in his Unibet video tour and said she was very good . Must admit on the back of that I bet on her to win the Mares Hurdle. I never really considered the Churdle in view of the horses he already has for that.

in fairness they said she might finish 3rd in the stable race over 2m

No disgrace behind 2 Champion Hurdle winners. If she was to drop into the Mares Hurdle then she'd be right up there with the best of them based on that. I think she's still 33/1 for the girls race so you might want to cover her for that as well.

              • What are peoples thoughts about Sceau Royal?

He was pretty impressive in the Welsh Champion, I wouldn't be surprised at all if he would be a 160-165 rated hurdler if he were to go down that route.

I see King has mentioned the Elite hurdle as a possibility, or the Greatwood. It sounds like they've decided not to bother with the Tingle Creek this year, he's obviously a very good but not quite good enough as a chaser. If he were to win the Elite/Greatwood, surely they must be tempted to have a crack at the Champion Hurdle?

With Abacadabras and Goshen now having plenty to prove, Saint Roi (as much as I like him) has plenty to prove himself, pretty much everyone bar Epatante has a fairly big question mark, it's pretty wide open.

40/1 at the minute with Skybet, I keep getting drawn to him when I look through the market. Has anyone heard anything more concrete?

                • He is in the 5-Day entries for the Elite Hurdle on Saturday, I think he is priced 2nd fav & Goshen fav.

SR at Wincanton could be a tricky horse to take on.

I'd have SR heavy favourite for that if he did line up there, Goshen would have a ridiculous amount to prove to beat him.

He certainly won't be 40/1 for this if he does win the elite.

Its 7/4 Goshen and 3/1 Sceau Royal, with main bookmakers.....
though Betway go 6/4 and 4/1
                      and Coral 6/4 and 9/2.

If Sceau Royal does run and win then backing him at 9/2 and then placing that on to his reduced Champion Hurdle (from 40/1) price should end up nearer to 100/1.

                      • Yeah I'm aware of the prices, was just meaning my own opinion if he were to run here. I highly doubt he would be 3/1+ if this was the confirmed target

                        • What price are you expecting him to be if he wins? I can't see him still being available at 20/25s. I agree that you would almost definitely get bigger than 40/1 mind.

I'm not sure where the improvement will come from for SR to become a Champion Hurdle contender. He was well beaten in the Champion Hurdle in 2017. If he wins on Saturday then he'd surely still be available at 20/1+, unless I'm missing something.

                            • I think if we bring in the Ballyandy factor into play when discussing Sceau Royal.
                              He's got no chance.

I agree. I think there's every chance he could trouble Goshen at the weekend but he won't be winning the Champion Hurdle.
