It’s a huge negative for me that he’s trained by Gary Moore. I like the guy but he’s not where I’d want a top level horse.

Goshen has a ridiculous engine clearly, but with his jumping frailties and the trainer, he’s an easy swerve for me at 5/1.

Abracadabras at 7/1 is a much better price in my view.

Edit - Although I must say that I haven’t had a bet on anything in the race at this point. Market looks incredibly tight to my eye.

I would have thought that if the Champion Hurdle was the only plan he has, and all roads lead to Cheltenham Festival Tuesday, then a prep run (or two) on the flat followed by two or three Graded races over hurdles before Cheltenham ought to be the sensible plan - not the other way round which sounded like a bigger flat campaign followed by a hurdles prep.

This would add fuel to the fire that he doesnt know how to manage the career of a top hurdler.

But, wait a minute...........maybe he does.

Goshen's profile and likely campaign is looking not to be too dissimilar to Punjabi's for Nicky Henderson, before we slate the trainer for doing it his way.

Punjabi himself had two runs on the flat in May 2008, before three runs over hurdles, which included a win, a fall and a defeat in a Grade 2, then winning the Champion Hurdle in 2009. Punjabi also ran in the Triumph, but didn't show up well, and had in between, run in the Champion Hurdle the year before his win in the race.

I'm sure many on here will be quick to judge the trainer for whatever prep he has in mind for the horse if Goshen turns out to not be good enough, which, coming out of juvenile company is feasibly possible. It's a big ask for the horse, nevermind the trainer getting him ready for it.

5/1 (and shorter now) is ridiculous, but trainer/horse/owner don't decide the prices.

The Moores have made a living for 40 years or more by preparing moderate horses for particular targets. It's different to handling a good horse but it's most unlikely that there is no plan.

            COD,

That Punjabi list sounds like the same as I hope for Goshen. A couple of flat runs then three over hurdles.

It's the quality hurdles practice he needs most, travelling quickly over obstacles in Graded races.

They surely have it mapped out, regardless of what has been said.

              My route would be:
              1. Cesarewitch
              2. Fighting Fifth
              3. Contender Hurdle at Sandown or the Haydock champ hurdle trial
              4. Champion Hurdle
              5. Ascot Gold Cup

Number 5 is a joke, before anyone pulls me to shreds!

Re number 5, could they aim him at some of the later Flat Cup races ?

He surely has to take advantage of that flat mark ?
2/3 valuable handicaps, rest up Nov/Dec, back for one hurdle prep run before a champion hurdle crack would be my guess...

Would definitely want him having two runs at least before the big one in March if he was mine, though I'm not in the Goshen camp at all.

I'm with you. Can't have him at all. Doesn't even give me a twitch of a hard on. That said, I thought the same all last season and then caved in and backed him on the day in a treble with Saint Roi and Chosen Mate.

                      • I do wish I had some double figures though so I could be being this negative knowing I have him covered in case he is exceptional

I should have been quicker during the week.

....if you mean Goshen, there are plenty of options in Sky RaB. I appreciate they’re not singles but worth a look in case there’s something in there that might attract to have it on-side.

They'd be based on his price now though wouldn't they?

...I find they are slow to adjust RaBs if the price of one component drops. You’d need to look to see if you think anything that includes Goshen represents value.
