In my experience Hills tend to be more generous with this type of bet than the other firms.

Yeah I think Gordy might keep his 'better' arsenal away from Willie for a while yet!

Think they were just wildy out of sinc with the rest. Still a way to go I think. She is still the one to beat.

                    • Saint Roi

We think this horse could be anything. What he did in the County Hurdle after just two runs in Ireland was extraordinary. He's not the bigges horse, he's a fanstastic jumper usually, he works with a lot of speed and you know he handles Cheltenham. He ticks all the boxes so until we see something that tells us he's not good enough, we're going to believe he is.

I completely agree Patrick. I believe there was an absolute judge on the forum who put that in their analysis too.

I'm on Saint Roi as well (3 PTS 25's/20's). Even with huge improvement do you think he can beat Epatante if she is in the same form as last year ? I don't, not with that ridiculous 7lbs allowance. He is certainly good cover in case she doesn't make it or isn't the same. I don't see any of the geldings being good enough to beat her giving that weight.......which brings me back to Honeysuckle....you knew that was coming didn't you! For me, she is Epatante's biggest challenger should she be given her chance. Concertista (backed her too), with the allowance, may be the fly in the ointment should Mullins send her down the 2 mile route. It could be an all girl's affair !

Four horses jump together at the last, 3 of them are involved in a photo for 2nd/3rd/4th at the line… and in that time, Barry has absolutely shot away. I’m too lazy to check this right now, so please correct if it’s wrong but it seemed to be a well run race, and he’s just absolutely thrashed them.
I’m trying not to get carried away but I’d forgotten just how good that looked. He was getting 12 lbs from Aramon (149) and beat him 4.5L officially, but I’d back Saint Roi off level weights if they met again, I feel like he had loads up his sleeve the way he’s put them away and the way he travelled into the race.

The Supreme winner Shishkin is now rated 159, Saint Roi has only gone up to 149 (same mark as Aramon had). Would Aramon have been beaten 10l in a Supreme? He was beaten 11.5L in Klassical Dream’s Supreme so it’s feasible (albeit incredibly loose) to say that if I think Saint Roi would beat Aramon off levels he’d have been in with a shout in the Supreme? Memory is fuzzy on this but didn’t Mullins say he may have been a Supreme horse but for the mark?

Anyway, the point of looking back at a race is to look to the future and 25/1 for the Champion Hurdle is the stand out price and it’s with 365. Just before I back it, I’m going to watch the Triumph and the County side by side to see where how they match up. ***Done*** that was fun! The County starts off at a stronger pace. By the time Goshen makes his move at the end of the back, he’d have been clear of Saint Roi though meaning he injected some pace. At the last I have him there 4 strides before Saint Roi…. Now we don’t get to see Goshen’s finishing efforts but I doubt he’d have been quicker from the last to the line than Saint Roi was? Compared to the rest of the Triumph field, I have the county considerably ahead too.

In this unscientific (although moderately scientific?) approach, Saint Roi wouldn’t have been that far down on him and he’d have been something to aim at! He’s 5 times the price of Goshen, and let’s not forget, Goshen didn’t complete and stumbling over your own feet isn’t a positive no matter how you spin in.

I’m going to back Saint Roi. It’s speculative but having done this exercise of watching everything back, not many things have got me excited to part with my cash, and that has.
Since this, Aramon went on to frank the form quite significantly AND Saint Roi came out and put a decent field away very easily (including horses like Chosen Mate that you've backed for a QMCC)..... so yes, I believe he can beat Epatante. 7 lbs is a lot, she's the reigning Champion Hurdler, I respect her chance massively and if they were both the same price I'd have backed her at 25/1 instead

I actually expect Saint Roi (or Abacadabras) to beat Honeysuckle in the Irish Champion Hurdle, so she's of no interest to me. I'd back Epatante over Honeysuckle at 2 miles in almost any hypothetical situation.

                          • I've backed Epatante, Saint Roi, Honeysuckle, Concertista, Allart (very likely to cash out) , Malone Road (Lol! Cashed out) and Abacadabras ( but only in a double with Easysland as Aba was priced up wrong at 10/1 with Hills). Surely I've got the winner in that lot or have I missed one ??

                              My shortlist would be:

                              Epatante
                              Abacadabras
                              Saint Roi
                              Saldier

I have actually also backed Sharjah e/w and Goshen in an after-timed roll up that was a bit of an error.

I'll be disappointed if the winner isn't named in my post though.

Saldier, yes. He was my second biggest 'winner' behind Honeysuckle last Fez. I think I'll wait until he's declared and then jump on him. Might even do one of these 'to win both races' bets to get him covered. Think he'd be quite a price to do that. Cheers for highlighting him.
