  • Could be meeting Goshen then, might be interesting.
Maybe some doubles on offer for the festival and contenders hurdle, which i would definitely look at.

    • Just rewatched the Matheson Hurdle and feel that excuses can be made for Abas run.

Kennedy seems unsure how the race might pan out and which horse to follow. This isn’t too surprising and he should have a better idea now and certainly after the DRF. Because of this, Aba was well out of position and lost all his momentum. By the time his break came the race was lost.

      • Thats all possible , but having been beaten by Aspire Tower already i would have thought he would know not to be too far off him. AT certainly werent stopping in that race or indeed the Matheson, and only the off the pace Sharjah picked him up, which hes rather good at.
Personally i think Aba backers need to hope the horse werent right, which to me the performance suggests.

I am sure he wasn’t right and is a contender but he also gets more passes than Davante Adams

But it does remind me a bit of the year Norton's Coin won the Gold Cup.

He was a sick horse in February and owner-trainer Sirrell Griffiths didn't enter him in any of the Cheltenham handicaps - he missed the deadline because he didn't think he'd have him fit in time.

But Sirrell had already entered him in the Gold Cup because it was an early closer and the decision to go for the big one was in effect made for him.

It wasn't colic with Norton's Coin - more a bug if I remember right.

But I'm hoping either Beacon Edge makes a similar recovery or the Bet365 cash-out enables me to escape in time.

I was hoping Marie's Rock was going to be the springer in the market - as I believe were you - but that's looking unlikely now so this is my Plan B and it's not going to break the bank.
I wouldn't put you off at his price NC. When I find one like that nothing would stop be backing them either.

Marie's Rock has had her soft palate done I think, so it's not without hope that she turns up in the Champion Hurdle, and if she does her mark in the Betfair Hurdle will have been a gift. Rather than re-back her for March now, I won't be able to resist a bet at Newbury and if she shows her form I'll then re-invest.

              • Has anyone heard whether Epatante was found to be in season after her defeat in the Christmas Hurdle. All I can find is quotes from NH saying that he suspects she may have been and test needed etc. but then nothing further since then. I ask the question as I've now heard a couple of people saying that she was in season as if that has now been accepted as a fact.....

                • I'm pretty sure nothing has been said since. I can't guarantee it's the case but I've been watching for an update.

She definitely wasn't right on the day though, and was fully playing up in the parade ring and out on the course, neither of which I've seen her do before. Also her head wasn't on the job over the first hurdle, which again is unusual. Something was definitely bothering her. She's usally relaxed, and we've all seen how slick and fast she usually is over her hurdles and she wasn't. It was all completely un-Epatante like. She's looked like a complete professional previously.

I've got a fairly big position on her so I have to say it leaves me with concerns whether it's a one off or it might repeat. So like you I'm still waiting for a confirmed explanation.

                  • I'm hoping it was a one off too. It wasn't like her run in the Mares Novice at the festival though as she still beat the rest of them as expected. I think Silver Streak is pretty decent value at 11s and love the way it ran through the line at Kempton, but would love to know just how (if indeed at all) below par that effort from Epatante was. Asking the impossible I know.

Looking at the RPRs it was in the same ball park as its win in the same race in 2019 and also this season's Fighting Fifth procession (both achieved comfortably to be fair). I'd have thought that a mare in season would run further below form than she did, but I'm no expert!

                    • I don't like that RPR from Kempton at Christmas. She clearly didn't run her usual race. It's easy to compare it to 12 months previously and you can visually see that's true. It wasn't in the same parish as the three pounds difference they gave. For anyone who hasn't I'd suggest watching both races back to back focusing on just her to see just how different her performance was.

It's hard to be precise with this next bit, but this season was on good to soft whereas the previous season was soft, yet the time she posted was only 5 seconds quicker. There are clearly shades of any going description, which is why it's hard to be precise, but the difference even if you were being ultra-cautious is much more than 3lbs for 5 seconds over the exact same course and distance.

Not what I Heard. Doncaster mares races then Champion hurdle IF she wins well

I own a share in her, both options are still on the table (Nicky appears to prefer the Betfair Hurdle). She will stay at 2M for this season is the consensus though

Any idea what went wrong last time qzy or was she just too keen?

                            • Breathing I beleive, but qzy will know better than me. She's out and our speed though, so I can't see her racing beyond the minimum.

She was far too free and fresh (and very on edge before the race I believe). Nicky's were also just starting to feel the effect of the bug that was going around the yard, but that was never used as an excuse - or at least that I heard. Last weeks update from Nicky was... 'I've never had her looking so good'. Either way she has to earn her right now to run at HQ in March
