  • I am 100% in the Against Oh Goshen camp. He's only ever taken on older horses 3 times. All on the flat. The first time he won but there were 2 other 3yo's in the race and all three were that well treated that they couldn't fail but to fill the first 3 places in a desperate handicap. The other two times when tried, he failed miserably against his elders. It's one thing tearing off in front and bullying your equals but when it's men versus boy it's a whole lot harder. I suspect he'll get found out again at the weekend against the likes of Silver Streak and Co and that'll be that with regards to his Churdle dream. I don't ever lay horses to lose races but for those that do then Oh Goshen on Saturday is a lovely opportunity.

    • Allmankind and Aspire Tower have franked Goshens form. But they did run below their best in Triumph Hdl. By about 5L I reckon so he would have probably won by about 8L running on well if he hadn't tripped up on landing at the last. I think he will win easily this weekend beating Song for Someone by about 10 L.

        Exactly FF91.

You can be average at a hurdle and still win a champion hurdle, as Faugheen proved.

He walked through the flight 2 out.

        • As previously mentioned, Epitante’s jumping has improved for experience and so can Goshen’s. In an ordinary year I would be 100% against the triumph winner but on this occasion I’m with him (champ hurdle more so than saturday). He’s a young horse with improvement available to him and the triumph was probably his best jumping performance last year.

10/1 isn’t great when you consider his profile - but if you look at the make up of the CH he remains the most unexposed threat to the fav, and if able to show form better than what we’ve seen of SR, Aba, JTM his 10/1 looks quite tasty.

          I’m in camp golly Goshen.

I'm not comparing them, just showing that you can win a champion hurdle without being ultra slick at your hurdles.

It's an obvious advantage if you do get from A to B quickly and efficiently but it hasn't stopped some previous winners.

              • Seems like Goshen has more followers than first thought!!

I have been strongly against him, but, for the sake of the division, the race, and the swelling number that support him on here, there is a small part of me (that I really have to search for), that wants Goshen to do a complete and utter demolition job on Saturday, honestly!! Even though he UR last year, I ate humble pie and admitted I got him wrong, so I'm not too worried about having to do that again

My hope is Goshen pisses up like a weapon, or disappoints like I think he will and we stop discussing him full stop - those are the only two scenarios I want to see!

What would really irritate me (and probably most of us) is a Saint Roi/Morgiana esque type of performance/result where Goshen either wins/loses by a fraction, or there's a hard luck story etc, and then we all then spend weeks debating him with way more questions than answers. That would suck!

I hope its impressive victory, or abject failure. That would be a thin win-win for me, sort of

I would love England to have a second Champion Hurdle contender, it’s pathetic that without Epatante, we have a handful of below-average options.

At least Ireland seem to have new contenders this season in Saint Roi, Aspire Tower, Jason the Militant and Abacadabras who could all line up, never having faced or been beaten by Epatante.

It’s always been my favourite jumps race, so I want it to be packed with quality every year, but I’m usually disappointed.

                    • But as regards the Champion Hurdle, Saint Roi looks the number one at the moment. He has huge potential. He could be the Champion Hurdle horse around here this season.

Another quote this time from Patrick

They clearly think Saint Roi is a good bit better than sharjah and saldier

                        • Good to see Saldier get a mention so sounds like he may run at Xmas (Matheson), then onto the festival.

Least he’s been entered plenty, in both Grade 1’s so far and again at Xmas so I’m hoping that means there hasn’t been a setback....again. Find out on closer to decs of course.

                          • Just looking some prices and see B D'air biggest price 33s, but thats with unibet, which does not fill me with much confidence on his progress.

Lovely! Ruby mentioned him on RTV RTC latest episode too and mentioned xmas, so looks like he's well at the moment

Always a concern when a horse hasn’t made a reappearance by Christmas especially when coming off the back of serious injury.
