Right, now Lobos.... you know I don't mind arguing with you at the best of times my friend.... but that is absolutely not happening.

If ONE of them doesn't run in the Mares Hurdle, the other one just will?

I know I shouldn't be bullish, as it's not MY decision, and the owners/connections will do what they feel..... but let's say Honeysuckle goes CH, Willie Mullins will NOT send Benie Des Dieux to the Stayers when she'd be odds on for the Mares Hurdle would be the most radical decision he'd ever made wouldn't it?

Likewise, if Benie Des Dieux went for the Stayers, and Honeysuckle's connections knew it, no way they're passing up an odds on shot at Cheltenham in the Mares for the defending Champion?

I suppose the only caveat, is if Minella Melody looks a super star - in that case you could have Honeysuckle (CH), Minella Melody (Mares), Benie Des Dieux (Stayers) as that is the only possible way I can see those two split that way.

This is what I think...with Honeysuckle going Churdle, as you say, the Mares opens right up. Mullins can send Benie down the 3 mile route, her optimum trip and still have plenty of ammo to play with to win s sub standard Mares Hurdle. Therefore giving him a great opportunity of picking up 2 big pots as opposed to 1. Boom !!

He wouldn't though, he'd send his best and most likely winner to the race.

I can't think of many examples that he hasn't done that.

Was he not close to going Stayers last season ? He sent her Mares and she got beat. Wrong choice. He must have thought that she would have won the Stayers had he sent her there. That will play on his mind. This year's Stayers race looks open and she'd comfortably be fav if she went there. Her best form is comfortably over 3 miles so why not let her run over her optimum trip ? Ricci has never won the Stayers either so that could also be a factor in their decision. It's the only race I'd back her to win.

            • I don't know how close he was to going Stayers last season? The fact is he didn't, and this year doesn't look like it'll be "easier" than last year?
            • The Stayers looking 'more open' doesn't mean it's easier, I'd say this year there are loads more contenders so I don't think it's easy by any stretch!
            • "Why not let her run over her optimum trip" - literally, he made that decision last year, so why would that chance? It isn't like she's come out this year and won by 50L over 3m, she's not been out, so whatever she did last year (and if you believe she proved 3m the best trip) they STILL didn't go for the 3m race - so why are you sure they will this time?
            • Ricci hasn't won the Stayers? HA, shittest reason I've ever heard. Both Grade 1's, Ricci has been interviewed enough for us all to know he doesn't have the final decision AND he's happy to just have a winner. There is no fucking way he'd refuse to have his horse take in the Mares Hurdle for a repeat win because he hasn't won a 'Stayers' before... you could even say he fucked up with Annie Power so won't make the same mistake again. It's flawed logic but that seems to resonate.

Final point, and this is a HUGE one, you say you would ONLY back Benie Des Dieux to win the Stayers, yet you also are pretty bullish Honeysuckle goes for the Champion Hurdle (or Churdle as you as you say)........ are you actually serious? So Benie Des Dieux, as a LITERAL Mares Hurdle winner, and 2nd last year, returning in the same race WITHOUT Honeysuckle, and you wouldn't back her???!??!?!?!?!?!? That is as close to the DUMBEST thing I've ever read on here if true.

Yep, wouldn't back her. No way. If she went Mares Hurdle again I think she'd find one too good again. Concertista, Marie's Rock, Dame De Compagnie would all trouble her over 2 1/2 around Cheltenham imo. Cheltenham isn't her fav course and 2 1/2 miles isn't her fav distance. She was odds on last season and failed. She's a year older so every chance she could have regressed further so why not let her have her chance in a race which is proven to be her best distance (ratings back this up) and give her a chance of ending her career on a high.

              • Benie lost the Mares by half a length with Townend making a poor error by coming off the rail allowing Rachel to sweep up the inner rail, that error was ultimately the difference and if the race was run a dozen times over I’m convinced Benie wins the other 11...

Not a chance. I've watched it many times and Honey was holding her comfortably at the line. Benie would never have got to her. Mullins is a bad loser.... nothing wrong with that . Benie and the rest were just beaten by a burst of pace that took Honey 2/3 lengths clear at a crucial time. They simply weren't good enough to react/make the distance up.

                  • Benie would never have got to Honeysuckle ?
You’ve missed the point, if Townend had held the rail he would have made Rachel come wide to make her challenge, Benie would have been ahead so it would have been Honeysuckle doing the chasing...

And she would have picked her up comfortably and the result would have been the same. Benie is a 3 miler. That was the difference.

                        Once again, too dismissive.
Do you ever consider an alternative view to your own ?

Yes, all the time. But if I feel I'm right I'll defend it until I'm blue in the face.

                          • In hindsight I really wish I’d put some premier league fixtures BTTS bets in with this roll up, most of the fixture have seen both teams score. Whilst the odds are not great with no crowds to scare the defence and strikers there are loads of goals.

You lot are starting to sound like the old men arguing about heavyweight boxers in the barbers shop in the film ‘Coming To America’ with your Honey vs Benie debate
