He's on my team and still available at 25-1 in a couple of places, even 20-1 is good value IMO

Has a similar profile to Gabbys Cross who I mentioned back in November at 33-1 for this race.
Much higher chase rating and qualified in one of Irelands main qualifiers.

Won the Cross Country handicap at Cheltenham this year off a chase mark of 149, but gets to run in the Pertemps off 131.
He went off favourite and ran from the front in the qualifier and did well to stay on at the finish when the first and third in that race both raced in rear.

He is now 5lb better off with Gaoth Chuil for 2 and a bit lengths.

He's still in the Cross country where he'd have a decent shout also IMO so NRNB makes most sense.

…..backed him for XC and saw a bit of Pertemps blue for him this afternoon so added for cover @20-1. Tony Mullins mentioned him last night for the XC but didn’t suggest he knew for definite he’s heading that way.

You'd think they'd have to be tempted given the hurdles mark vs running against 3 x 160 rated chasers.

Alright I'll do it. A £1 on each at 50s is on offer

If anyone cares for an update... Over 24 hours later and neither pound has been matched. Either both aren't out or nobody's that desperate for a couple of quid

He's 2nd reserve - given the ground he might still sneak in

Be surprised, social runners will probably turn up despite the ground. Something would have to go wrong with them. Just very unlucky that he has ended up third on the ballot when he was clearly the best of the three.

                • Farouk dalene looks a knocking bet now the rain has come at 16s

Significant class edge, would've gone close in the BANC if not for falling at the second last

                  Will love the ground

Any staying chaser reverting back to hurdles should be on the list now. Le Milos has run over further and won on heavy so he'll be near the top.

                    • Could the ground be better by then? Will be fresh ground for the Pertemps as the first hurdle race on the new course

True it will be fresher so I guess it's a case of how much it improves.

Yep, one I like along with Le Milos, Gabby's and Icare Allen.

Ive just popped into this chat to see if anyone has mentioned this horse. Based on his BANC run few seasons back he looked to have enjoyed cheltenham and the ground and would have went close there it seems. Head and shoulders above them on ratings today too. Finished ahead of Capodanno this season during a confidence builder. Jockeys 7lbs claim too. Lots of positives.

                                4th - rear

                                Martin Pipe

                                1st - prominent
                                2nd - held up
                                3rd - prominent
                                4th - rear

Last few winners have all been midfield at best in this race as well.

On the new course, we have the famous 2 hurdles in last 7 furlongs. With some of that being downhill, the leaders in the handicap typically go too fast in that section and it allows those ridden more patiently to dominate in handicap hurdles.

Horses likely to be midfield to rear would be

                                Farouk D'Alene 16/1
                                Flight Deck - 66/1
                                Icare Allen - 7/1
                                Judicial Law - 66/1
                                Emitim - 25/1
                                Gaoth Chuil - 7/1
Chantry House - 18/1 but very weak
                                Le Milos - 5/1
                                Gabby's Cross - 15/2
                                Popova - 10/1

Of them, Icare Allen wears a tongue tie (7 of last 8 winners).

6 of the last 8 winners came from the Leopardstown qualifier - Farouk D'Alene and Gaoth Chuil.

At 154 (147 after Rob James' claim), Farouk D'Alene would be good enough to place or win the Stayers wouldn't he off that rating (same could be said for Sire du Berlais previously).

Past 12 winners all 8 or younger - Icare Allen, Gaoth Chuil, Judicial Law, Popova

Tongue tie wearers are Gowel Road, Monmiral, Anna Bunina, Hector Javilex, Noble Birth, Icare Allen.

My two backed are Gaoth Chuil and Icare Allen. If Popova goes out in price slightly, she'd interest me as she is unexposed over this trip. I'll wait and watch her price.
