I think SDB should come here under a claimer, hes not recorded an RPR at cheltenham lower then 155 in his last 3 festivals..if there is a horse who runs to his mark or even better at cheltenham then its him..if hes got fitzgerald or rob james on top then hes a great bet

Everything Gordon has said in previews to date has been that Sire Du Berlais is coming here under 7lb Rob James claim. I'd take his word over Codd as he makes the decisions. If there has been a change of plan, and Codd is right, I'm sure it will come out this evening at the preview Gordon is attending.

If SDB does go Stayers it'll be one more step closer to his stablemate Dunboyne getting in the final 24. That might make the decision easier to make for the plot horse to squeeze in right at the bottom. Wonderful executed plan if it comes off.

Couldn’t have it myself, he won half a length off 152, logic says he’s a lot more likely declined since then, not improved, and is now asked to compete off 156. Obviously it’s not to say that the opposition will be as good this year. He was campaigned honestly last year, and was rated 160 by the gb handicapper for Cheltenham and then 160 in Ireland after the stayers, I don’t think there could be any great plot he’s only shed 4lb off his OR, and again is a year older now in the period where horses will *typically* begin to decline.
Although I could be wrong. He seems popular. But am happy to let him potentially hold up the prices of others.

personally I think Rob James is very good value for his claim, but sdb hasn’t always been a very easy ride, and I think Barry Geraghty in the plate was worth a few lbs at least to this horse. As good as Rob is relatively speaking, he’s probably not worth the full 7lbs over Geraghty or even mark Walsh - maybe a net benefit of 4lbs you could say?
