In the nineties and noughties I made money from backing blind any champion bumper runner going for a maiden hurdle. I didn't take it further in graded races unless they looked real good. I used to do similar. I'd back the top 10 from the Champion Bumper in their first two runs, and it was a license to print money. But as you say the bookies caught on and it became harder to make money. Also in recent seasons very few horses from the Champion Bumper have gone on to be decent in actual fact the record of runners 'going on' from the Champion Bumper was downright terrible at one point. I think for me, that is enough to be confident that he won't blindly follow Envoi Allen's path to the Ballymore.
People can take it how they like of course, and Gordon shouldn't be taken as gospel by any stretch.Comment
