  • I definitely think he will run in a Novice Hurdle at the Festival.

No "elevation" required beyond the Novice programme, Malone Road is only a 6yo, with 3 racecourse runs, he isn't an old man that needs to get on with it.

An early season target could be one or two more runs and then the Royal Bond at Fairyhouse that Envoi Allen beat Abacadabras and Darver Star in on 1st December last year.

I don't see the problem in Cheveley Park having Ballyadam, Malone Road and Ferny Hollow all mixing it in 2M and 2M4F Graded Novices this year.

It helps them judge their ability and which horses go chasing the following year, and who may be worth a crack at hurdles for a second season, and maybe the Champion Hurdle.

    • I imagine that, like every other trainer in Ireland, Gordon is fuming that the HRI have still only announced fixtures up to October 4th. When you consider that it takes 10 to 12 weeks to get a horse from the field to race fit, it's not ideal when planning a winter campaign.

He should be fuming, that is pathetic.

If he's good enough to win a Champion Hurdle, then he'll have more chance winning the Supreme or Ballymore and logically ends up there. The line of thinking that the owners will have Ferny Hollow and Ballyadam as the standout Supreme and Ballymore favourites looking head and shoulders above anything else is absolute fairytale stuff.

Backing a novice hurdler, to not run in the novice hurdle event because of those two horses is odd (to put it kindly)

Chevely Park have absolutely no issue running their horses against each other as we've seen on the flat, so this narrative that they'll be splitting them up is wide of the mark too, totally fabricated I'd suggest.

You're both looking outside the box, so many people end up thinking outside the box, they forget what the box is there for

The odds that "all 3" turn up, so that they have to consider splitting them is so long already that I'd want 66/1 just to get a run!
If he's good enough to win a Champion Hurdle then he'll go for that race. If not, he'll go somewhere else.

          • What order of race likelihood would people have for Malone Road. Of the race's mentioned so far I'd go with the following:

            Ballymore
            Supreme
            Handicap Hurdle
            Arkle
            Marsh
            Champion Hurdle

For what it's worth I think one of the first two is the most likely with an edge towards the Ballymore. The next three are impossible to discount and the handicap option is interesting given the trainer. And the last one is just not happening at all, particularly after the mess he made of Samcro.

I'll just repeat myself as you've ignored 90% of it and still said something illogical....but....

Actually not turning up is a good shout for the top slot Kev.

                    • Not turning up is probably the most likely outcome for just about bet placed on festival horses 9+ months out....

At this point no one knows if it is above his station. A novice hurdle at the fez will no doubt he the starting point but if things go as planned then the sky's the limit.
