Only done final circuits as it didn't look a true run race for Ferny/Bob or the juvenile in truth and whilst a fast horse can run a slow time a slow horse can't run a fast time so I only take note of things that are quick or truly run rather than slate horses winning slow if tactical/or easily won etc.

Now ill start by saying RP times can often be from when the flag is dropped so you are better off timing from a set point like first hurdle or a point in the track, from the flag bearer to the winning post first up the Juvenile race was just shy of 6 seconds (24L give or take) to highlight just how slow the novice hurdle was very early doors.

Below is the final circuit time, times between flights. and from 2 out to the line which is a shade over 2f.
Juvenile race won by Youmdor Novice won by Ferny
Youmdor 2l behind until 2 out Ferny sat 1.5l off Bob until joint lead from two out
winning post to first hurdle on last circuit(actual 4th) 28.9 29.3
    first to second(5th) 17.2 17.3
    second to third(6th) 20.5 20.6
    third to fourth(7th) 41.5 39.9
    fourth to fifth(8th) 29.2 27
firth to sixth(9th) 15.4 Takes it up here 14 Takes it up here
    sixth to line 12.8 12
    circuit time 2mins 45.5 2mins 40.1
    2 out to line time 28.2 26
Make of that what you will but given the 2 out to the line time by both Ferny and bob they both are obvs have high cruising speed just happens to be Ferny can accelerate quicker.
    Cheers.
My eye was not far off this time.
I thought they ran the last mile quite smartly, and were steady without being real slow for the first mile.

Won't be a novice hurdler at the festival, so can't run in any of the novice hurdle races.

Should go well tomorrow but not sure where he fits in with regards to festival target. If he doesn't win tomorrow then possibly a handicap. I do like Indiana Jones against him tomorrow, FWIW.

I like Indiana Jones too, race-fit, with a good win last time out.

It looked a sprint finish ( coming 45 lengths clear of the 3rd place), with a really slow first part of the race, I didn't think it would be 10 seconds slower to the finishing line on the first circuit though.

The second runs usually start to sort the pecking order and race planning out. roll-on the Christmas meetings.

            • Anybody got any ideas what Joseph O’Brien is up to with his novice hurdlers this season? He’s leaving it fairly late to get his better bumper horses out and starting Fire Attack out in a Grade 3 on debut is also an interesting move. I’ve not seen any entries for Uhtred or Forged In Fire and the only entry Eric Bloodaxe has is in the Royal Bond.

Is this normal for him to hold them back or is he trying something new so that they’re primed for the end of season festivals?

Interesting that WH have priced him up 40-1 to win today and the Supreme, if he is ineligible to run in Novice hurdles. Is the Supreme ok for some reason?

Ive also got him down as not eligible for the novices. As cod said handicaps(coral cup) would be best guess.

                    No.......
Looks like hills made a mistake.

Unless there has been some sort of change of rules/dates due to covid then he's not eligible for novice hurdles.

Yes but I wish they’d have made more of him today. Another race run at a crawl when you’re sitting on a staying chaser

Willies also seem to be hit and miss first time out.

                          • I've added Crosshill in the Albert Bartlett at a boosted 28/1 e/w

The form of his maiden win at Punchestown was nicely franked today by Vaniller who beat two quite well fancied horses themselves for the spud race in Stattler & Fantasio D'alene. Also Jessy name dropped the 3m novice hurdles as a long term target in her recent Racing Post Tour.

Backed it myself, had an entry this weekend but didn't take it up. Looking forward to seeing it.

I checked out Vanillier's previous race after todays win and was surprised that he had been beaten 11l by Crosshill. He was value for more than he won by today as he was a bit sticky at a few hurdles and looked beaten. I backed him @ 25/1 with PP. No power up available, am I the only one or is Paddy getting more stingy with giving power ups
